HAMSTER IN TEA CUP

MATERIALS:
Patons Beehive Baby Sport yarn ( 3-ply) in White and Gray
Caron’s Simply Soft yarn (4-ply) in Yellow and Green
Pink embroidery floss for nose, hands and feet
Polyfill
Sizes G and 0 crochet hooks
Yarn needle
6mm black post eyes

HEAD
With White yarn and 0 hook:
Rnd 1: Magic circle 6 stitches (if you don’t know what a magic circle is,
there is an excellent video demonstrating it on Utube: Here is the link:

Rnd 2: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 9 sc
Rnd 3: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc - CHANGE TO GRAY YARN and
continue round: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, CHANGE BACK TO WHITE
and continue rnd: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc – 12 sc
Rnd 4: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc – CHANGE TO GRAY and continue –
2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc – CHANGE BACK TO WHITE: 2 sc in next
sc, sc in next 3 sc – 15 sc
Rnd 5: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc – CHANGE TO GRAY: sc in next 2
sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc – CHANGE TO WHITE: 2 sc in next sc,
sc in next 4 sc – 18 sc

**Note: As you continue the next 4 rounds, follow the instructions but
don’t forget to crochet gray into gray and white into white.
Rnd 6: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 24 sc
Rnds 7 – 8: sc in each sc
Rnd 9: *sc 2 tog, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 18 sc
Stuff head.
Rnd 10: *sc 2 tog, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 12 sc
Rnd 11: *sc 2 tog, until closed.

NOSE
Using Pink floss (all strands) and yarn needle, sew a few tiny stitches
horizontally on tip of head for nose. Take a 1/8” stitch down from nose and
two 1/8” stitches down from this stitch on either side to form mouth. Glue
eyes in place. See my photo on next page:

EARS
Using Gray yarn and 0 hook:
Rnd 1: Magic Circle 6
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc – 12 sc – end off and sew to head as shown:

BODY
Starting with White yarn and 0 hook:
Rnd 1: Magic Circle 6
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc – 12 sc
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 18 sc
CHANGE TO GRAY
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc,
CHANGE BACK TO WHITE: sc in next 2 sc, **2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2
sc; rep from ** around – 24 sc

**As before, continue to follow pattern, crocheting grey into gray stitches,
and white into white stitches**

Rnd 5: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around – 30 sc


Rnds 6 – 13: sc in each sc around
Rnd 14: *sc 2 tog, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around – 24 sc
Rnd 15: *sc 2 tog, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 18 sc
Rnd 16: *sc 2 tog, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 12 sc
Stuff body.
Rnd 17: *sc 2 tog until closed.

Sew head to part of body that you started first with head sewn slightly
down on chest rather than straight on end of body. See my photos:

head slightly resting on chest.

HIND LEGS
With White yarn and 0 hook:
Rnd 1: Magic Circle 4
Rnd 2: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 6 sc
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 8 sc
End off, leaving tail to sew to body.

HIND FEET
With Pink floss and 0 hook:
Rnd 1: Magic Circle 6
Rnd 2: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 8 sc
Rnd 3: sc in each sc, end off, leaving tail.

Using tail of floss, slip feet onto pointy ends of legs like a mitten, and sew
them onto legs and using white tails of yarn from legs, sew legs onto body
as shown in my photos using an overcast stitch. No need to stuff legs.

FRONT LEGS
With White yarn and 0 hook:
Rnd 1: Magic Circle 4
Rnd 2: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 6 sc
Rnd 3: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc – 7 sc
Rnd 4: sc in each sc – end off, leaving tail

FRONT FEET:
With Pink floss and 0 hook:
Rnd 1: Magic Circle 6
Rnd 2: 2 sc in next sc, sc in remaining 5 sc – 7 sc
Rnd 3: sc in each sc – end off, leaving tail

Sew feet onto front legs as you did for back legs. Sew front legs onto body
just below head as shown. You can tack front feet together like I did so he
looks like he’s holding them together if you want.

TAIL
Using Gray yarn and 0 hook:
Rnd 1: Magic Circle 4
Rnd 2: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc – 5 sc
Rnd 3: sc in each sc, end off, leaving tail to sew to back of body.

Sew tail to body as shown in photo:

Your little guy is done and now we shall make his cup and saucer:
You will be using the G hook for the whole thing.

CUP
Starting with bottom and Green yarn:
Rnd 1: Magic circle 6
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc – 12 sc
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 18 sc
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 24 sc
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around – 30 sc
Rnd 6: sl stitch in top loop only all the way around, end off, weaving in
ends.
Attach Yellow yarn to any inner (unworked) loop of round 5 of green
bottom.
Rnd 1: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc; rep from * around – 36 sc
Rnds 2 – 4: sc in each sc

Rnd 5: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc; rep from * around – 42 sc


Rnd 6: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc; rep from * around – 48 sc
Rnds 7 – 11: sc in each sc, end off, weaving in tails
Attach Green yarn to any stitch:
Sc in each sc around, end off, weaving in tail.

HANDLE:
Using 3 strands of Green yarn about a yard long, ch 14, sl st in each ch,
end off. Weave in most tails but leave one for sewing on.
Using my photos as a guide, sew the handle onto cup.

SAUCER:
Using Green yarn:
Rnd 1: Magic circle 6
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc – 12 sc
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 18 sc
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 24 sc
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around – 30 sc
End off, weaving in ends.
Attach Yellow yarn to any stitch:
Rnd 1: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc; rep from * around – 36 sc
Rnd 2: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc; rep from * around – 42 sc

Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc; rep from * around – 48 sc


Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 sc; rep from * around – 54 sc
Rnds 5 – 6: sc in each sc
End off, weaving in end.
Attach Green yarn to any stitch:
Sc in each sc around, end off, weave in end.

All done. Now you can place your cup in your saucer and your little guy in
the cup. I hope you had fun.

PS: You can use Stiffy fabric stiffener on the cup and saucer if you wish
them to be firm. You can get it at all craft stores. Mine is unstiffened.
