WRITING DESCRIPTORS: WRITING 1

5  Fully completes pre-writing and writing tasks.


 Addresses all parts of the task successfully:
o Writes a text (required number of paragraphs and sentences)
 Provides specific supporting details (follows instructions)
 Writes a strong topic sentence to introduce the paragraphs.
 Writes a concluding sentence
o Always uses and circles 7 linking words (connectors, transitions,
etc.)1
o Always employs and underlines vocabulary from the unit (five
correctly).
o Always uses proper punctuation.

Note: may make no more than two mistakes in the use of connecting words,
grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and capitalization.
4  Mostly completes pre-writing and writing tasks.
 Addresses most parts of the task successfully:
o Writes a text (required number of paragraphs and sentences)
 Provides supporting details (follows instructions)
 Writes a topic sentence to introduce the paragraphs.
 Writes a concluding sentence
o Uses and circles 6 linking words (connectors, transitions, etc.)1
o Uses and underlines vocabulary from the unit correctly (four
correctly).
o Usually uses proper capitalization and punctuation.

(half of them are used correctly)
o Uses and underlines vocabulary from the unit (two correctly).
o Sometimes uses proper capitalization and punctuation.

(At least three linking words are used correctly)
o Uses and underlines vocabulary from the unit. (one correctly).
o Does not use proper capitalization and punctuation.

 Note: may make more than eight mistakes in the use of connecting words,
grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and capitalization.

KEEP IN MIND TO SEPARATE YOUR PARAGRAPHS AND IN THE CONCLUDING SENTENCE, USE
THE “CORRECT” LINK WORD TO INTRODUCE THE CONCLUDING SENTENCE
