Chapter 1
Searching the Information Hub
documentation set Chapter 1

This chapter provides information on how to perform a search query on the iHub
documentation set.
As an alternative to performing a broad search of the OpenText Knowledge Center, use the
method described in this chapter to search for a specific topic within the iHub documentation.
This method provides more targeted results and faster search times.

Performing a search query

You can perform a search query for a word or phrase on all of the Information Hub
documentation PDFs in one search. The results of the search include links so that you can
navigate to each of the results in the PDFs.
The Information Hub documentation site contains PDFs of the entire iHub documentation set.
The site also contains a ZIP file containing the PDFs, as well as an Adobe Acrobat catalog
index file (.pdx), which enables you to search across the documentation set.
There are two ways to search the iHub documentation set:
■ Using Adobe Reader Advanced Search to search a set of iHub documentation PDFs in a
specific directory
■ Using the Adobe Acrobat catalog index file to search the entire iHub documentation set
How to search iHub documentation PDFs using Advanced Search
1. Locate the PDFs you want to search and copy them to a new folder, for example,
iHub16_PDFs_<date>.
2. In Adobe Reader, choose Edit➛Advanced Search. The Search window opens.
3. In Search—Where would you like to search, select All PDF Documents in, and browse to
the folder containing the PDFs you want to search.
4. In Search—What word or phrase would you like to search for, type a search string, for
example, WSDL, as shown in Figure 1-1. Alternatively, choose Show More Options to
refine your search. For example, you can specify an exact word or phrase, any of the words,
all of the words, and so on. Then, choose Search.

6. Choose Refine Search Results to perform a search on only the books for which search
results were returned on your previous search. For example, in Search within the previous
results for, type schema, as shown in Figure 1-5.

Only the books returned in the results of your first search are searched for the new string,
schema, as shown in Figure 1-6.

the location in the PDF. For example, expand Reporting and iHub APIs Programmer
Guide, and choose WSDL schema, as shown in Figure 1-7.

How to search the iHub documentation set using the Acrobat catalog index file
When you use the PDX file as the starting point for your search, you increase the speed of the
search results by using the information in the index files. When you open the PDX file, the
Search window opens and automatically selects the location of the associated PDFs.
1. Navigate to the following location:
https://knowledge.opentext.com/go/62338966
2. Open PDF Manuals Catalog.
3. Download the Manuals-master-index.zip file.
4. Extract the contents of Manuals-master-index.zip to a new folder, for example,
iHub16_PDFs_<date>.
5. Navigate to iHub16_PDFs_<date>\Manuals-master-index\Manuals.
6. Double-click the master-index.pdx file. Two windows open, either Acrobat or Reader, and
Search. Search automatically selects the master-index.pdx file as the location to search, as
shown in Figure 1-9.

7. To complete your search, perform steps 4 through 7 of “How to search iHub
documentation PDFs using Advanced Search” on page 2.

Using proximity in a search query

The proximity search is useful when you want to find a sentence or a paragraph containing
two or more words but you do not know the order of the words or the phrase containing the
words.
How to search for two or more words in a range of words
1. Double-click the master-index.pdx file.
2. In Adobe Acrobat, choose Edit➛Preferences.

U s ing pr oximity in a sear ch query

3. In Preferences—Categories, select Search.

4. In Range of words for Proximity searches, type the number of words defining the range
within which you want to search. For example, if you type 5, and you search for the
following words in a single search:
copy volume
the search results include the following phrase because the two words in your search are
within a range of five words:
a copy of a volume
Choose OK.
5. In Search, choose Show More Options.
6. In What word or phrase would you like to search for, type two or more words to search for.
7. In Return results containing, choose Match All of the words.
8. Select Proximity. Then, choose Search.
The proximity search returns only the results where the words are separated by no more than
the number of words you typed for the range. The results show only one of the matching
words in bold.
