My name is Kratagya Dixit and I am from India.

I live in Visakhapatnam, an eastern port city

of Andhra Pradesh. I am in my final year of Bachelor of Technology, pursuing Computer
Science and Engineering from VIT University, Vellore. I plan to pursue Masters of Science in
Business Information Systems from your esteemed University.

Ten years from now I would like to work as an analyst of technological market for big
multinational companies. According to popular beliefs, the only way to contribute to a
technical industry is by developing a technological product, but I beg to differ, I believe that
analysis of market is equally important because it informs whether the product that is under
development is feasible or not, whether it meets the quality standard of the market, the
right time for its deployment in the market and the kind of technology industry needs to
make the product. These factors play a major role for the industry to survive in this highly
competitive high-tech world.

My internship in maple software in web development has also been a factor to take up the
Business Information Systems program in Australian National University. In the internship I
learnt the basics of web development which included HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL. The
internship also taught me the basics of digital marketing and its importance. During my
internship I met various employees of the company, who reviewed my work and also
suggested me to make a career in marketing field.

Though my ideas may seem to be capitalist in nature, but I also believe in service to society.
I was a part of an NGO called Edforall in my college, which dealt with educating the children
of the rural part of the city. I was given the task of a day coordinator. My job was to manage
the team I was given, I had to make sure, we reported to the government school on time,
feasible transportation, my teammates completed their tasks of the day and receive and
communicate my team’s feedback with the president of the NGO. While working in Edforall
I realized that technological advancement is the only solution for making lives of people
better in today’s world.

I came to know about The Australian National University when I read about the 3A institute
established in 2017. This institute aims at bringing the best researchers from around the
world to contribute in the field of artificial intelligence and software engineering to benefit
the mankind in best of its interest. Australian National University provides a platform for the
students, where they can implement their ideas to bring about a change in society and the
University provides all resources and amenities so that the students can achieve their goals
and objectives without any hindrance.

Australian National University gives the students an opportunity to choose their own subject
to specialize in. Since I started my journey to become an engineer I have always been
intrigued by project management. In today’s online age, it is very important to understand
and implement the knowledge of project management, since the production and business
of a product depends upon how the processes were managed. In my engineering I took up a
software engineering course that was a pre-requisite of software project management. I
grasped the basics of project management which enhanced my interest in this specific field.
I have learnt the importance of project management in businesses and other IT sectors, I
would like to contribute to the Industry I work in, with best of my knowledge in the fields I
specialize and implement them efficiently.

India is the second most populate country in the world, with 1.36 billion people. Fifty per
cent of the population in India devotes their time in farming and agriculture. The
government tries its best to provide all the resources farmers need to make their work easy,
but to manage such a vast population sometimes become a challenge which has to be dealt
with in a very short period of time. My thesis project for Business Information System would
definitely explore the field in drones and agriculture. The agricultural drone that will be
developed in my thesis will have the ability to increase the crop production and monitor the
crop growth. This drone technology would cut down the resource requirements such as
pesticides, water and insecticides and also bring a relief to farmers. Development of
software programs for analysing and correcting crop production has a vast potential to grow
in the market. The drones will allow the real time data to be delivered back to the users,
which for a farmer, will be a game changer.

In my last summer holidays, I took up an internship in a pharmaceutical company called Eisai

Pharmaceuticals. Eisai is a well-known Japanese based industry which mainly focuses on
development of anti-cancer medicines. While working there, I learnt a lot about how
business processes are carried out. The only issue company faced was the time taking
process for the drug to get approved, which takes approximately 12-15 years. I would like to
explore in this field by coming up with management software that could bring the number
down to at least 5-6 years. This would definitely have a positive impact on the patients
across the globe and also give easy and cheap access to anti-cancer medicines.

My final year project is called A.N.N.A, it is BLE mesh based home automation system. The
system uses Natural Language Processing in order to understand voice command and later
performs the commands accordingly. I decided to use for the BLE Mesh because it has the
potential to drastically transform today IoT products. BLE mesh compared to its counterpart
zigbee offers a practically zero power device to device communication. Device to Device
communication is considered as the backbone of any IoT based product today. The
prototype for A.N.N.A currently has the capability control devices such as Air conditioner,
Television and lightings all around the house. However, the device need not have the
capability to connect internet in order to be compatible with the system. I have designed IR
circuit which allows ANNA to control these devices. A.N.N.A’s ability to be able to easily
interface with even the non-smart appliances around the house, makes it especially useful
in Indian households where most of the appliance do not share the capabilities to connect
to the internet.
My graduation program was divided into Core and Elective. We had to earn 184 credits
during the four years of engineering. My core subjects which are fixed included, Data
structures and algorithm, computer organization and architecture, Object oriented
programming, Management information system and many more. I had chosen three
elective subjects, in which I chose to study, green computing, soft computing and cloud
computing. I scored fine marks in my electives and have maintained a decent score
throughout my bachelors.

The course, Business Information System offered by Australian University is divided into 96
units which needs to be completed within two years. In the first year, the students have to
complete 48 units which include subjects like, evidence based management, marketing and
stakeholder information, relational databases, managing in global context and so on. These
subjects give the students a basic and overall knowledge about business information
system. In the second year, the students are taught about business analytics for engineers,
Networked information systems and many more. The students are also given the
opportunity to select six elective subjects of their choice .This structural division of
academics helps the students to learn and understand their subject quickly and efficiently.

I have a dream to bring about a change in the world of technology by exploring new
business processes and developing new product technologies that would help the society to
sustain its quality and would ensure that our future generation can also be able to enjoy the
uses of technology more than us. Australian National University is the university that I
believe can make my dream come true.
