Campaign Ads of the 2018 Midterms
POLITICIANS:
Campaign advertising tactics:
-Bandwagon: telling people to choose a candidate because they are the most popular
-Testimonial: having a well-known person voice support for a candidate
-Empty phrases: sound good but may have little meaning, “I believe in America”
-Plain Folks: showing that the candidate is just an ordinary person

Campaign poster considerations:

-What does the ad say about the candidate's platform/stance on issues?
-What does the ad tell you about the candidate's background and experience?
-What symbols or pictures appear in the ad?
-Does the ad include a slogan?
-How does the ad make you feel about the candidate?
LOBBYING GROUP ONE – THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION:
Lobbying for gun owners across America.

The responsible gun owners of the NRA believe they have the right to buy
semi-automatic weapons.

Tell the Senators that law abiding U.S. citizens have the constitutional right to
bear arms to be able to protect themselves and their families.

Remind the Senators that hunting is popular recreation and necessary for animal
population control, that this bill could be a first step toward banning all hunting
rifles.

LOBBYING GROUP TWO – Moms Demand Action
Lobbying for stronger gun control laws and public safety measures.

Convince the Senators that if this bill passes, a step is taken to lessen gun
violence.

Semi-automatic weapons are designed to maximize lethal effects through a rapid

rate of fire. Remind the Senators about the lives lost to gun violence.

Remind the Senators about the importance of keeping these guns out of the
hands of young gang members. When the ban was in place, it reduced gang
violence and the overall use of assault weapons in crimes.

LOBBYING GROUP THREE – The Brady Campaign
Lobbying for stronger gun control education, litigation and legislation.

Convince the Senators that if this bill passes, a step is taken to lessen gun
violence.

Loopholes in firearm purchase laws have allowed convicted felons and domestic
abusers to own guns. Remind the Senators about the lives lost to gun violence.

Remind the Senators about the importance of extending background checks,

with very narrow exceptions, to every gun sale and transfer. When the Brady
background check was signed into law, it prevented an average of 396 prohibited
people from purchasing guns every day between 1994 and 2015.

LOBBYING GROUP FOUR – Lansing Gun Company
Lobbying for measures on behalf of, and in defense of, the firearms and
ammunition industry

Convince the politicians that the gun industry is a viable one.

Remind the senators that that nearly two-thirds of firearms deaths are by
suicide, and that responsible gun ownership reduces gun violence/creates jobs.

Remind the Senators that measures restricting hunting, self-defense and gun
sales are a threat to the American people, and could hurt our economy.
