World Necessities: United Nations

Differences, whether political or not, are dividing countries more and more everyday.

The United Nations was founded to be the mediator and middle ground for many countries.

Nowadays media, bias news, and fake news make it harder for people to trust any government

or organization. Although some people argue that the United Nations is corrupt and unjust, the

world needs the United Nations because the global communities can solve problems and help

people in need.

After World War II, many countries were still struggling to find middle ground with

other countries. According to “United Nations: An Overview” by Bailey, Ellen, and Isadora

Flynn, the League of Nations was formed in hopes to be the mediator that was needed to solve

many of the world’s problems. Unfortunately, the League of Nations failed. Luckily, Franklin D.

Roosevelt and Winston Churchill were the creators of the United Nations. The article

emphasized the history of how the United Nations evolutioned to make the organization it is

today. In the United Nations website is states what the United Nations does. In the article it also

states that the United Nations helped control the Cold War. This began to show people that the

organization was really interested in cultivating peace all around the world by preventing World

War III. People began to have faith and trust an organization that wanted what was the best for

the people and not the governments. The United Nations’ mission as stated on the website is to
Valdivia 2

“maintain international peace and security, protect human rights, deliver humanitarian aid,

promote sustainable development, and uphold international law.” This shows the public that the

United Nations has many missions that they are working hard to accomplish. On the United

Nations website along with their missions, it also states the sub organizations that work with

specific missions and goals. The United Nations has had many accomplishments and

organizations that can be found on the United Nations website.

The United Nations has helped bring countries together, they have helped put an end to

some terrorism, and helped prevent abuse. In paragraph one of “Tackling the World’s Multiple

Challenges Simultaneously,” by Michele Coninsx, she explains that world security is an

important factor to achieve world peace. In order to achieve their goals, the United Nations needs

cooperation from every country. The United Nations has a unique way of working with other

countries to bring them together to help each other out. The United Nations can’t make a world

wide change with only their board members, they need everyone to join in and become part of

their policies. This shows that they are interested in not only having an organization called the

United Nations but really take their name to a different level. Even if there are still differences

between countries the United Nations will be there to become the mediator. In the fourth

paragraph, Coninsx also lets the reader understand that there are many problems, like terrorism,

that are still being taken care of. The United Nations has a special committee called the

“Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate” (CTED) that specialises in ending

terrorism. This shows that the United Nations are working to make a better world for everyone to

live in. Not only does the United Nations care about political alliances, they also want people to

feel safe. The United Nations also shows that they want to make it a priority to end terrorism by
Valdivia 3

assigning a team that specializes in breaking down every terrorism group to have a terrorist free

world. The United Nations also wants to keep people safe by ending exploitation in many

countries often done by terrorist groups as stated in Coninsx article in paragraphs seven and

eight. The United Nations also has another team that specialises in freight tests called “foreign

terrorists fighters” (FTF). The FTF are in charge of monitoring what happens in other countries

in effect to terrorism. They use social media to help them track down many places where

exploitation takes place. This shows that the United Nations has many resources that help try to

make people feel safer in their own communities and homes. The FTF helps people realize that

they aren't alone and that the United Nations is making the best out of all their organizations and

committees. The United Nations doesn’t just care about money and world business, they also

care about people’s safety, putting an end to terrorism and reinforcing world unity.

The contributions made to the United Nations aren’t used on medicare policies they are

truly life saving. The United Nations helps millions of people by providing them food, they also

provide medical needs, and slowly are trying end poverty. In paragraph 3 of “Hurting the United

Nations Hurts the United States,” by Peter Yeo, it explains that there are many people who live

their day to day lives with no food to eat or clean purified water to drink. The United Nations

has provided food for around “80 million people” in many countries. This shows that people are

being saved from starvation by the help that the United Nations provide. This also constitutes

that the United Nations wants to help the world become a better place not only instituting a space

but also by providing basic necessities for people. In “Hurting the United Nations Hurts the

United States,” by Peter Yeo, he also states that the United Nations helps provide vaccination for

many people all around the world in paragraph four. The United Nations wants to vaccinate
Valdivia 4

people to have healthier countries that become stronger by having more people to work. This

shows at the United Nations wants to help small fragile countries develop more by helping

people be healthier. The United Nations is also trying to improve the people’s quality of life and

their countries’ economy. In paragraph four of “Hurting the United Nations Hurts the United

States,” by Peter Yeo, he explains that poverty is the “ key driver of instability”. Yeo explains

that poverty leads people to join terrorist groups as they are promised money and shelter. This

shows that people are worsening their own communities in hopes of being able to provide a

better life for their families. The United Nations is trying their best to end terrorism but they need

to end the key in order of here to be no sources where it can derive from. All around the world,

there are many people who need the basic necessities in life like food, others need medical care,

and others are simply living in poverty, the United Nations is always working at making new

policies to benefit people in need.

Although other people may believe that the United Nations is not beneficial or helpful to

the world because the United Nations is unfair, they only demand money, and abusive. In

paragraph four of “How to Defund the United Nations” by John Bolton, he explains that the

United Nations is unfair because they take into considerations the United States’ ideas more

often than other countries’ ideas because America has bigger assets. The United States owns

22% of the United Nations’ assets. This means that they are the biggest money contributors.

This shows that the United Nations is being unfair by not considering other policies or methods

to help the world because they are being blinded by all the money. This also shows that there is a

bias in the United Nations that benefits the United States. Johns Bolton also explains that the

United Nations is a money demanding machine that is “jammed” as stated in paragraph five of
Valdivia 5

“How to Defund the United Nations.” The United Nations has been withholding funds that could

be used to investigate and create new policies, but instead they are just keeping the money. This

shows that the United Nations only wants to benefit themselves and the people working in it.

People are being let down and given false hopes that they are going to be helped. The United

Nations knows that countries don’t want to pay their dues so they abuse their power by asking

for money in order to have a seat and vote in organizations as stated by John Bolton in “How to

Defund the United Nations” paragraph thirteen. In order to have an opportunity to contribute

ideas and vote policies countries need to pay their part of the asset. As it is the United Nations is

biased towards countries who pay more money. This shows that there may be more policies and

ideas that are being ignored due to the country not being able to pay or simply because their

ideas are being ignored. This further explains why the United Nations needs to be defunded. The

United Nations knows the way to manipulate, be biased, and be money hungry.

The United Nations has also been full of secrets, they have been liars, and most

importantly, they have not benefited the public on purpose. In “Reducing Subsidies Will Send

the Right Message to the UN” by David Williams in paragraph one and three it states that the

United Nations has no form of oversight and therefore they are developing a culture of secrecy.

The United Nations was given the freedom with no strings attached and they took the

opportunity and ran with it to the moon. The United Nations was given no supervision, they are

their own boss. This shows that there are barriers and rules that need to clearly be set. This also

shows to the United Nations are developing unhealthy relationships by leading an organization

that keeps secrets from the people they are”trying to help.” The United Nations has also

contributed in a false indictment that lead to a waste of money and time according to “Reducing
Valdivia 6

Subsidies Will Send the Right Message to the UN” by David Williams. This explains why some

people who live in countries where their country has big assets had a tax increase. The United

Nations was using taxpayer money to lead a false investigation that they knew was a lie. This

shows that there is money that isn't being used properly. This also shows why people are losing

trust in their government and organization that claim to be helpful. The United Nations has also

passed policies that they knew would be ineffective, would fail, and/or wouldn’t be needed, as

stated in “Reducing Subsidies Will Send the Right Message to the UN” by David Williams. The

United Nations has pushed for policies like increasing taxes on tobacco instead of getting rid of

tobacco as a whole, the policy would still be contributing to the promotion of unhealthy

products. This shows that the United Nations isn't well at managing their own money. This also

shows that they aren’t trying to make policies that have a long lasting positive effect on the

world. The United Nations is not here to benefit people, tell the truth , or to reveal all they are

hiding.

Although other people believe that the United Nations isn’t needed, it is clear that the

United Nations is helping the World. There may be many negative comments, but there is no

clear reason as to why the United Nations should be defunded or removed. The United Nations

has helped Syria get justice, it is inclusionary, and they have helped decrease some differences.

According to Christian Science Monitor in “The UN’s step for justice in Syria,” the United

Nations has helped bring many mass killers and terrorists to courtrooms to get the punishment

they deserve for killing people. This shows that the United Nations is trying to form a more

peaceful world by getting rid of terrorists. The United Nations is helping communities become a

better place where they can be safe. This also shows that there are people that need to be held
Valdivia 7

accountable for their actions and the United Nations is helping troubled countries fulfill that. In

“Making the United Nations Relevant to All” by Maria Espinosa, she states that sometimes

people will not believe a certain organization or government since they are being biased due to

the people in the group. Espinosa explains that the United Nations is trying to be more inclusive

and including men and women from all around the world. This shows that the United Nations

cares about everyone ideas and concerns. By including everyone, the United Nations is letting

people see that they care for everyone and not just for certain people. According to “Why the

World Needs the United Nations,” by Rosalind Montanez and Anne Stokely state that the United

Nations has been serving as the mediator to solve many of the countries’ differences. In The

article Montanez and Stokely both explain that there are many prejudices being held against

people from certain countries that make other people treat them wrongly or badly for something

that they may have never done. This shows that the United Nations is trying to help

everyone, live in harmony and unity by trying to get rid of those differences that divide people.

This also shows that there are still problems that need to be solved because if there were no

problems then the United Nations would not be getting involved. The United Nations is no

money hungry, lying, or manipulating organization, it is an organization set up to help better

everyone's lives.

The possibility of World War III is very high due to the technological advancements that

have helped design more dangerous machinery. The United Nations is there to make sure that no

country exterminates another. People’s lives rely on the United Nations. Think if a world where

there are no regulations and no one to save people who live in poverty. The stability of the World

relies on pillars and the United Nations is one of them.

make the United Nations relevant to everyone. Espinoza supports her statement by

explaining her own situation in the United Nations. Espinoza notes that she is only the

fourth woman to attend the UN General Assembly and the first woman from Latin

America. In contrast, an article cited below “How to Defund the U.N.” there are still

ways to make the United Nations a better place. People need to realize that officials and
Valdivia 9

president can only do half of the job because the other half is left up to society to follow.

Policies are not perfected in a day, there are so many things that need to be fixed to not

only save society but also to ensure that the policy itself sonnet cross any boundaries

when it comes to limiting and restricting certain things to say or do.

Yeo, Peter. "Hurting the United Nations Hurts the United States." CNN Wire Service, 27 Jan.

2017 Peter M. Yeo, President of the Better World Campaign and the senior Vice

President at the United Nations Foundation, explains that the United Nations is needed all

around the world to help people who live famine and without the medical necessities to

get the chance to receive what they need to survive. Yeo supports his argument by

explaining that with the help of the contributions from countries and people who

volunteer they have been able to save some people from dying from hunger or from

dying from horrible illnesses that can be easily avoided by vaccinating people. Yeo notes

that the United Nations have been able to vaccinate 45% of the children around the

world. Similar to another article "Tackling the World's Multiple Challenges

Simultaneously" change takes time. There are many things that need to be done before

the world is peaceful and free of terrorists but there are many challenges that

communities need to go through to achieve their peaceful and war ridden utopia.

Coninsx, Michele. "Tackling the World's Multiple Challenges Simultaneously." UN Chronicle,

Jan. 2018, pp. 26 Michele Coninsx, Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism

Executive Directorate, explains that the United Nations is trying to do it’s best to make

the world a better place, but real and effective change takes time. Coninsx supports this

claim because she states that when society begins to get involved, everything becomes
Valdivia 10

easier since their work and effort is put into helping the United Nations speed up the

process if their plans. Coninsx notes that the United Nations does struggle to keep peace

reigning in the world. Coninsx also states that there are many terrorists groups that are

taking advantage of people and there are only a small amount of Directors, therefore,

people need to get involved and educate themselves on what is happening in the world

around them. Similar to an earlier article, “Hurting the United Nations Hurts the United

States." the public also needs to take part in this change to have a better society and

worlds to grow up in.

Bolton, John. "How to Defund the U.N." Wall Street Journal, 26 Dec. 2017, pp. A.15 John

Bolton, National Security Advisor of the United States, explains that the United Nations

needs to stop taking big amounts of money from countries all around the world to use it

on meaningless plans that aren’t beneficial to world peace and to in a way bribe them into

paying in order for them to have a seat in the voting committee which helps people”vote”

on the policies they think would be more beneficial to everyone. Bolton notes that the

United Nations should be put under harsh scrutiny from other countries to know what

their money really goes to. Bolton also states that the United States is just wasting their

money of a meaningless organization that is just stealing their money and using it for

their own benefit. In comparison to an earlier article "Hurting the United Nations Hurts

the United States” the United state would benefit from not having their money go to the

United Nations because that U.S can decide what to do with the ,pney to better their own

country.

Hindin, Doron. "The United Nations' campaign against business in Israel makes no sense."

Washington Post, 3 May 2017 Doron Hindin, a Washington Post writer, explains that the

United Nations are going against their own founding principles. Hindin notes that the

United Nations is being unfair to many companies that may have once committed a

mistake in their early stages of trying to uplift the business. Hindi explains that the United

Nations is almost blackmailing people to not joins the Western bands for any marketing,

sles, or trading. The World Trade Center and the United Nations are working hand in

hand to figure out what they are going to do to keep people from taking the easy route to

uplift reir new business. Hindin also states that the United Nations is violating laws

because they are giving preference to people who have an association with anyone

working in the United Nations. There is a lot of corruption going on inviting businesses

that people aren’t aware of. In contrast to an earlier article "Hurting the United Nations

Hurts the United States” there is no way to benefit the United State became the United

NAtions itself has fallen for the same trap other governments have.
