ALGORITHM
- EVALUATING AND CREATING ORDER OF ACCEPTED APPLICANTS
The basic condition for admission to bachelor’s study (first-degree study) is the completion of full
secondary education or vocational secondary education finished with a valid school leaving examination
(maturita examination).

Admission procedure will be WITHOUT AN ENTRANCE EXAMINATION for all applicants for the
study at the Faculty of Management.

In case of their interest, applicants can take an OPTIONAL SCIO test (for a more detailed
information visit www.scio.cz).
Applicants for the first level of study (bachelor’s study) reaching a percentile of over 50
(inclusive) in an optional SCIO Test of General Academic Prerequisites will be accepted
automatically and in preference to other applicants - disregarding the average mark in a
school leaving examination, under the condition they submit a valid school leaving
examination certificate.
Those applicants will be offered admission without being evaluated by the algorithm. However,
they have to submit their school leaving examination certificate to be enrolled.

All applicants ranked among candidates for admission on the basis of algorithm will be accepted.
The order of applicants for admission is created according to school leaving examination certificates,
including all types of old (classical) school leaving examinations taken before 2005
from all types of secondary schools
i.e. grammar schools and all other types of secondary vocational schools;
according to grades in school leaving examinations (in case applicants have the same score, a final year
certificate is used in the algorithm).

The algorithm includes a possibility of a considerable improvement of school leaving examination

results by taking an optional SCIO test (visit www.scio.cz for a more detailed account) administered in the
Czech Republic and Slovakia (9 – Prešov, Košice, Michalovce, Poprad, Bratislava, Žilina, Martin, Banská
Bystrica, Nitra). By doing the SCIO Test of General Academic Prerequisites, the following applicants may
significantly improve their position in the list of applicants:
 the applicants for the study at the Faculty of Management in the 2019/2020 academic year who
have already taken their school leaving examination and the average grade of their study
results has not been sufficient for admission
2
 the applicants who are to take a school leaving examination in the 2019/2020 academic
year and would like to (need to) boost their chance and increase the probability of their
admission to study in the given academic year.
ALL applicants will be listed among candidates offered admission, including the ones who have not
taken their maturita examination in profile subjects (mathematics and a foreign language), but have a
valid school leaving examination. Any applicant fulfilling the condition stated on the previous page maybe
admitted to the bachelor’s study according to his or her position in the ranking order.

Two separates lists of candidates for admission are created for each study programme according to the same
algorithm:
 A ranking order of applicants for full-time study according to the algorithm for each study programme.
The Faculty of Management is a part of a university, a public higher education institution – the study at all
full-time study programmes is f r e e o f c h a r g e.

 A ranking order of applicants for part-time study according to the algorithm for each study
programme. The part-time study is charged a tuition fee in compliance with legislation and guidelines
from the Slovak Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport and it will be published on the
website by a set date.

Applicants are offered admission to both forms of study (full-time and part-time) according to their
placement in the ranking order ranging from the lowest final figure - to a set number of candidates offered
admission – according to faculty’s capacity that takes into consideration criteria and indicators of the
quality of university education.

The score is calculated by multiplying two components of a compulsory part (I) and a possible
improvement determined by points gained in an optional part (II).

The algorithm consists of these items (I. –II.):

I. A compulsory part
 The arithmetic average of grades from a school leaving examination certificate from any type
of secondary schools (APZMV)
 A coefficient allocated for a type of a secondary school (KSŠ)

II. An optional part

 SCIOB - based on the SCIO Test that can considerably improve the position of the applicant in
the list of candidates offered admission. The test is administered by an independent SCIO evaluator SCIO;
for a more detailed account consult: www.scio.cz. The test is taken into account by over 50 Czech and Slovak
faculties. The applicant may gain a bonus for taking the Test of General Academic Prerequisites. The faculty will
incorporate into the admission procedure for the 2018/2019 academic year the SCIO Test results administered
anywhere in the Slovak or Czech Republic.

 B – Bonuses, i.e. possible bonuses received for profile school leaving examination subjects
(mathematics and a foreign language) that are not compulsory ones.

APPLICANTS ARE ACCEPTED ON THE BASIS OF A RANKING ORDER ACCORDING TO

THE SO-CALLED FINAL NUMERICAL VALUE RANKED FROM THE LOWEST ACHIEVED
NUMERICAL VALUE CALCULATED IN THE FOLLOWING WAY:
3

Final numerical value = APZMV . KSŠ . 100 – B – SCIOB

COEFFICIENT VALUES ARE SHOWN IN THE SCHEME FOR CALCULATING

THE FINAL NUMERICAL VALUE (see page 4 below)
Description of variables
1. „APZMV“ = the arithmetic average of grades in school leaving examination (compulsory)
All valid school leaving examination certificates in compliance with the Slovak legislation are
suitable for admission procedure, including school leaving examinations without mathematics and
foreign languages. This applies to current school leaving examinations as well as to ‘older’ ones
(before 2005).

2. „KSŠ“ = a coefficient for a secondary school (compulsory)

The coefficient is allocated according to the following table (in compliance with § 57 Clause 1 of the
Act 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Changes and Supplements to Some Laws) and the
type of a secondary school in compliance with the Act 245/2008 Coll. on Upbringing and Education
and on Changes and Supplements to Some Laws as well as the Decree of the Ministry of Education
of the Slovak Republic 282/2009 Coll. on Secondary Schools:
A type of a secondary Grammar Graduates with an economic Other vocational
school school specialisation that is in the field of secondary school
graduates study 63236XX hotel academy or graduates
63176XX business academy*
Coefficient for a secondary 1,0 1,3 1,5
school
* If in doubt the economic specialisation will be judged by a committee.
3. „SCIOB“ - SCIO–bonus (optional)
SCIOB bonus significantly increases the final numerical value, the bonus for taking the Test of
General Academic Prerequisites administered in the framework of SCIO testing (for a more detailed
information visit www.scio.cz).
This optional SCIO test might improve the placement of the applicant in the rank order of
applicants for admission. The test is administered and evaluated by an independent SCIO
evaluator. The results of the optional SCIO test are taken into consideration by over 50 Czech and
Slovak faculties in their admission procedures.
If the applicant took the SCIO test, he or she is to send the test results (a certificate) to the faculty by
the 15 June 2019 at the latest.
The faculty will take into consideration the results of the SCIO test administered anywhere in the
Slovak or Czech Republic in its admission procedure.
„B“ – Bonuses (optional)
Bonuses are determined by the range of values related to school leaving subjects (mathematics
and foreign languages) including a substitute for a school leaving examination in a foreign language
recognised on the basis of an awarded certificate. If the applicant has not taken an exam in
mathematics or a foreign language, or he or she does not meet bonus requirements, their “B”
variable value reaches zero and the position of the applicants in the ranking remains the same.

Notes:
 In case the same number of points is received on the basis of the given procedure, the end-of-year certificate
from the final year of secondary school study is considered.
 In the study programme Management, students enrol for a block of compulsory optional subjects (one of the
four blocks) after their acceptance to the study and this is not included in algorithm evaluation.
 A standard length of study in the full-time bachelor’s study programme is three years, and in the part-time
study four years. In both forms of study (full-time and part-time), the study is provided by means of a
combined method
4

 We recommend applicants to follow the website of the Faculty of Management for possible specifications
www.unipo.sk/fakulta-manazmentu as well as the website of SCIO www.scio.cz.
 An electronic application form for the study is published on the main University of Presov in Presov website
www.unipo.sk under the heading "Vzdelávanie – Informácie pre uchádzačov o štúdium" (Education –
Information for Applicants “.

The columns in the above mentioned scheme (highlighted by the blue, green and red colour) are not interrelated.
5
) The final variable “Final Numerical Value” determines the place of the applicant in the list of all applicants who will be offered admission starting from
the lowest value (i.e. “ the best’ value for the admission) to the highest one in the range of various negative and positive values, beginning with the
negative ones.
