BOOK EXTENSION ACTIVITY - LESSON PLAN

1. Pre-K/ CCSD K-2nd Grade Core Standards:

 1st grade. Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or
events.
2. Objectives:
SWBAT –
 Students will retell what they learn about each character.

3. Materials/Equipment:

 Colors pencil
 Worksheet
 Glue
 Scissors
 Pictures of animals
 Color paper

4. Teaching:
A. Reading the book.
 Show the cover of the book and ask the students to describe what they see on the cover.
Record their answers on the board. Ask the students what they know about the animals
that they see on the cover. Start to read the book and ask the students what they see on
the pictures, what colors do they see. Stop reading after you read the information the
book provides for each animal and student what they know about the animal. Show more
pictures of the animals so students can learn more about the different animals listed on the
text. After reading the book ask student what they learn about the animals. Which animal
is their favorite and which one they did not like? Ask them to share with the class if they
have any animal at home.

B. Extension activity:
 Print out worksheet with the animals listed on the book also print their name. (make sure
to have enough copies for every student just in case they all pick the same animal). Put a
picture of each animal next to the name of the animal so this can help student to memorize
the name of each animal. Ask student to pick their favorite animal and color it. Ask each
student to grab the name of the animal and paste it with the picture of the animal. Provide
color paper just in case students wants to paste their animal and name in a different paper.
Walk around the room and ask student what animal did they choose and why. Give them
enough time to color and finished their work. Ask them to raise their hand when they had
finished.

5. Closure:
 Student will share in groups of three or four, which animal they choose and why they like
that animal and name one fact that they learn form the text about the animal.
