 Marie Curie won two Nobel prizes; this prize is the highest award a scientist can win.
With her husband Pierre, Marie discovered a new element called radium. Doctors were
able to use radium to help discover what was wrong with some sick patients and help
them get better. Marie was born on November 7, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland. Both of her
parents were, teachers, Marie was one of the smartest students in school. She finished
high school when she was only 15 years old. Women weren’t allowed to enter the
university in Warsaw. Marie went to wok taking care of children and teaching them, to
save enough money to go to college. When she was 24, she had enough money to g
there. In Paris, she went to a very famous university called Sorbonne. She studied a lot
of math and science, she earns a scholarship in physics, because she was such a good
student. Marie needed a laboratory where she could do experiments. A scientist named
Pierre Curie said she could use his lab. The two of them fell in love and married. In
1895 other scientists began experimenting with rays. One ray was the X-ray, which
could travel though wood or even a person’s skin. Another was the ray given off by
Uranium. She discovered that there was another element within uranium that was
producing the rays. In 1898 Marie and Pierre discovered two new elements. They
called the first Polonium in honor of Marie’s native Poland. They called the second
radium because of its rays. In 1903, Marie and Pierre shared the noble prize in physics.
Pierre died in 1904. In 1911, Marie won the Nobel prize in chemistry. She died on July
4, 1934. The world remembers Marie not only as one of the greatest scientists, but also
as one of the most famous women who ever lived.

Explain how the book appeals to children, their interests, developmental levels, fun

 Children will learn about the life of a scientist and they can share they thoughts about
this inventor.
 Children can discuss what they would like to become when they grow up. What are
they goals?
 Children can discuss whether she is a role model or no and share they reasons.
 The book have pictures of Marie and Pierre so children can know who she was, and
how she looks like in real life.

 The book uses a language that children can understand also it has a glossary
explaining the words that can be difficult for a child to understand. the story it not to
long and include pictures of Marie and Pierre.
