Year Four Information Evening

The Religious Education Program Unit of work: Church 4.1

o The program is approved by the Bishops of Western
Australia.
o It provides students with an understanding of the
Christian message as it is handed on by the Catholic
Church.
o Compulsory for all students at a Catholic School –
accepting of all faiths and supportive of all children.
o 30 minute lessons everyday (as well as partaking in
prayer and masses throughout the school year).
Loving God,
You are the giver of all we possess, the source of all our blessings.
We thank and praise you.
Thank you for the gift of our children.
Help us to set boundaries for them, and yet encourage them to
explore.
Give us the strength and courage to treat each day as a fresh start.
May our children come to know you, the one true God,
And Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
May your Holy Spirit help them to grow in faith, hope, and love,
So they may know peace, truth, and goodness.
May their ears hear your voice.
May their eyes see your presence in all things.
May their lips proclaim your world.
May their hearts be your dwelling place.
May their hands do works of charity.
May their feet walk in the way of Jesus Christ, your Son and our
Lord.

Assessment & Evaluation
o Students faith will not be assessed, rather their
knowledge and understanding of the content itself.
o One major planned assessment – Week 3, Lesson 2
Students are to retell a chosen parable in
their own words and explain how it teaches
us to live as God wants.

o People learn in communities.
Wondering at ways we learn, who can help us to
learn and what we learn by being a part of a
community.
o Jesus teaches people to live good lives.
Jesus used parables to teach us to live as God
wants and shows us that we can learn about God.
o The Apostles handed on the teachings of Jesus.
Jesus appointed twelve leaders to hand on the
teachings of God. Through the Sacraments today, we
receive graces to continue handing these on.
o Members of the Church believe the teachings of Jesus to be
important.
Jesus began the family of God which we call the
Church. We follow important documents to
remember these key teachings e.g. Catechism and
the Lord’s Prayer.
o God’s family, the Church, teaches how to live as God wants.
The Church teaches us about God and models how
to live as Jesus taught.
Class Mass
At the conclusion of the unit, students will partake in a class mass and
all parents are invited to attend. Details are as follows:
