Transmission line breakage detection and online compliant registration

and sun tracking solar system and power monitoring system

ABSTRACT:

Electricity has become the most sought after amenity for all of us. Gone are the days
when electricity would be only limited to cities. It is now reaching to every distant parts of the world.
So we have now a complex network of power system. This power is being carried by the
transmission lines. These lines travel very long distances so while carrying power, fault occurring is
natural. These faults damages many vital electrical equipments like transformer, generator,
transmission lines. For the uninterrupted power supply we need to prevent these faults as much as
possible. So we need to detect faults within the shortest possible time. Microprocessors and
microcontroller based systems used for these fault detection have been advancing rapidly. The
proposed paper simulates Numerical Overcurrent relay that detects faults using microcontroller and
ADC. These relays are more reliable and have faster response than the traditional electromechanical
relays and Static relays. They have increased range of setting, high accuracy, reduced size, and lower
costs, along with many other functions, such as fault event recording, autoresetting, etc. This project
is about designing the Numerical relay where the fault is detected when the input value exceeds the
reference value set in the relay which then gives the trip signal to the circuit breaker.

Registration of compliant for Electricity problems are offline. Where people must
come to specified government office to register compliant which is time consuming and include
huge paper work. A mechanism to accept complaints 24 × 7 from citizen is the expectation from
both the government bodies and citizen. With increased usage of mobile phones, it has become
possible to register compliant online. This paper proposed an approach to solve such problems that
is by enabling registration of compliant online. The users download and run the application on his
phone. Then the system allows the user to compose his compliant. User can raise issue from any
location at any time for their respective locality. Statistical information is maintained such as the
number of complaints received ward wise, number of them solved. User can also know complete
information about government related activities. This proposed system provides communication
between government officials and the citizens.

Solar panel has been used increasingly in recent years to convert solar energy to
electrical energy. The solar panel can be used either as a stand-alone system or as a large solar
system that is connected to the electricity grids. The earth receives 84 Terawatts of power and our
world consumes about 12 Terawatts of power per day. We are trying to consume more energy from
the sun using solar panel. In order to maximize the conversion from solar to electrical energy, the
solar panels have to be positioned perpendicular to the sun. Thus the tracking of the sun’s location
and positioning of the solar panel are important. The goal of this project is to design an automatic
tracking system, which can locate position of the sun. The tracking system will move the solar panel
so that it is positioned perpendicular to the sun for maximum energy conversion at all
time. Photoresistors will be used as sensors in this system. The system will consist of light sensing
system, microcontroller, gear motor system, and a solar panel. Our system will output up to 40%
more energy than solar panels without tracking systems.
Solar power plants need to be monitored for optimum power output. This helps
retrieve efficient power output from power plants while monitoring for faulty solar panels,
connections, dust accumulated on panels lowering output and other such issues affecting solar
performance. So here we propose an automated IOT based solar power monitoring system that
allows for automated solar power monitoring from anywhere over the internet. We use arduino
based system to monitor a 10Watt solar panel parameters. Our system constantly monitors the solar
panel and transmits the power output to IOT system over the internet. Here we use IOT Gecko to
transmit solar power parameters over the internet to IOT Gecko server. It now displays these
parameters to the user using an effective GUI and also alerts user when the output falls below
specific limits. This makes remotely monitoring of solar plants very easy and ensure best power
output.
