Teaching Practice Task 3: Noting Teaching and Learning Strategies

Program link: This task is associated to the guidelines of the course EPC 3403 – Practicum
3a (Course Learning Outcome 1 –planning the lesson, 2- designing and creating resources, 3
– maintaining a positive environment, 4 – considering individual differences and 5 – timing)

Objective: You will Identify and assess teaching and learning strategies. At the end of each
day, you will note a teaching strategy that you or the teacher used that you consider very
useful and you would want to use again. This strategy can deal with the planning of the
lesson, the use of materials and technology, the review of prior learning, the motivation of the
children, the presentation of the materials, the appropriateness of the practice activities,
classroom management strategies, timing strategies, reviewing the lesson, general assessment
of the learning or if you are lucky enough to talk to your teacher, her reflection on her lesson.

Day 1: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Add three-digit numbers with regrouping.

Strategy: classroom managements

My MST she has good classroom management such as if she wants the student to stop
talking, she says: Put your hand on your head, put your hands in your mouth, listen and
all the students do it. I used this strategy when I teach them, and they respond to me.

Day 2: Subject: Math

Strategy: In this day I am absent because I have EMSAT exam in college

Day 3: Subject: Math

Strategy: My MST absent

Day 4: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Subtract three-digit numbers

Strategy: considering individual differences

After the teacher explain the lesson, she let the students to open page 435 and 436 and
start solve the equations , she let them to do by themselves first after that she look
around student by student and to see they work after that she check if the students forget
something or doing something wrong she give them some advice and she didn’t give
him direct answer she tell them go back to your set and think what you miss ?.

Day 5: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: add three-digit numbers

Strategy: timing strategies

she made timing strategies such as she tells the students in general what will do today,
she uses alarm clock to remember the time for next part of lesson. I have benefited from
this strategy because I have a problem with time and this method is very important to
me to organize all part of my lesson.

Day 6: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: review subtract and add three-
digit numbers.

Strategy: the review of prior learning.

recap or review of prior learning for last lesson are very important for all students, it
help them to remember the equation, how to solve it, how to find the answer, what the
steps? Also, this way helps the teacher to know whose students know or understand the
last lesson. I used the strategy every lesson I do it on the begging and the end, first 5
min of the lesson I made quick review about last lesson and the end of the lesson I made
recap the lesson to be sure all the students understand.

Day 7: Subject: Learning Outcome: survey

Strategy: general assessment of the learning

end of the lesson the teacher made exit ticket for the students it has 3 questions, she
gives the student 4 to 5 min to solve the problem after that she call group by group to
came in to the door and put the paper in the box and leave the classroom quietly.

Day 9: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Analyse data on picture graphs

Strategy: the review of prior learning and timing strategies

In this lesson I see my MST use timing strategies for learning outcome: Analyse data on
picture graphs, because she wants to make review for survey, use data to create picture
graphs and Analyse so each of these will take time maximum 10 to 15 min. furthermore
she use two strategy in these lesson the review of prior learning and timing strategies

Day 10: Subject: Math

Strategy: Strategy: the teacher discuss social issue (sport day)

Day 11: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Use data to create line plots

Strategy: the motivation of the children

In this lesson I hear the teacher class positive and encourage students to say positive
words for them like (very good, excellent, well done) So this motivation makes students
more interested in the teacher.

Day 12: Subject: math Learning Outcome: Analyse data on line plots.

Strategy: classroom management strategies.

line plots

Strategy: the review of prior learning and the presentation of the materials
In this lesson the teacher baring many think or different picture of survey, picture
graphs, bar graphs and line plots and she is showing the students to make the review of
prior learning for this unit.

Day 14: Subject: math Learning Outcome: review survey, picture graphs, bar graphs and line
plots

Strategy: the review of prior learning


In this lesson the teacher baring worksheet for the student to make review about survey,
picture graphs, bar graphs and line plots to be ready for the exam.

Day 15: Subject: Math

Strategy: the teacher discuss social issue (Emirati children day)

Day 16: Subject: Math Learning Outcome: Students will be able to add
decimals.

Strategy: the review of prior learning

In this lesson the teacher baring worksheet for the student to make review add decimals
to be ready for the exam.

Day 17: Subject: Learning Outcome:
