1. Make a scale drawing of the classroom.

E. Inside the classroom, I prefer the U desk formation. The teacher will be right in the middle of

the classroom and it makes it easy, as the teacher, to keep your eyes on every student. With this

setup the students can easily get away with texting, not paying attention, and goofing off. I do

like that the groups you can create as a teacher and make the class interact with one another. I do

like certain aspects of it but as a whole, I do not like the setup.

2. Now analyze your drawing.

The U shape better suits the instructor goals for a classroom. It makes more sense than this setup

of the teacher. It does keep the high traffic areas free of congestion. It allows the students and

teachers to move freely through the classroom without it being overcrowded. It lets the teacher

move around the class to make sure he can get to each and every student. The teacher can see

some students very easily, but some students are hard to see when the teacher is at his desk or the

other side of the class. So, the setup can make it hit or miss for keeping eyes on all the students.

The teacher does keep the teaching materials and student supplies very accessible. The

Chromebook cart is always open and always available to the students, the supplies are right next

to the teacher's desk and on top of the teacher's desk. The students can easily get up and assess

these when they need it. Where the whiteboard is at the students can easily see it and make sure

to take notes. Its right in the middle of the classroom and the room configuration allows all

students to easily see the board.

3. What are any strengths and/or weaknesses of this arrangement?

The only major change to the classroom I would make is the desk configuration. Everything else

is a major strength to the room outside of the desks. The U configuration is my favorite and

implementing it into this classroom would really improve it I believe. It would allow the teacher
to be directly in front of the room and in front of the whiteboard. It would easily allow him to see

each and every student easier than he already does. He could have easy walkways throughout the

classroom and keep easy control of the classroom. It would also make the outside border of the

classroom a tad bit less congested.

4. Observing students in the class:

A. Each class had an average size of 40 students and it was about a 60/40 split of boys to girls.

The age of the students was 15 or 16-year-old students.

B. There were a few students that were isolated. They usually were much quieter than the other

students and kept to themselves. The behaviors that might have led to this is that fact they feel

out of place with the social groups in the class. Most of the students had large groups of friends

inside the class and they all sat together. The excess of that group would sit at the nearest table

and the isolates would use the remaining desks. This leads them to be very to themselves.

Another factor would be the behavior of the students. A lot of the students I observed were very

loud and disruptive which makes a lot of people uncomfortable inside the class. The isolate

students wanted to pay attention and focus on the instruction so that could lead to that as well.

C. The students who raise their hands the most are the students who are quiet in the groups. They

are the ones who pay the most attention and take the most notes as well.

D. The students in the back of the room are very loud and disruptive. They create a lot of

distractions and keep the teacher from carrying on their lesson plan most of the time. They talk a

lot more than the other groups in the classroom.

E. The students who participate and do their work get the most praise. They usually raise their

hands and give answers and feedback to the teacher. They do that 90% of the time while the
other 10% is the teacher calling on the students who don't participate at all. Which students

appear to receive the most praise?

F. The students who always tried to be funny and make unnecessary comments were ignored the

most. The teacher had no patience for them because they always tried to do the same thing every

day.
