This apartment complex is on 300 E and is an example of a lower end apartment, but due to it

being downtown and close to many of Salt Lake City’s attractions, it is still pricey. This building
is old, but the community around it is mainly young people. This shows that the young people
are living in the somewhat run down neighborhoods. The streets are tight and from what I could
tell, the only parking was on the side of the street or in the very limited spaces in the middle of
the road. An apartment like this should be on the cheaper side, though it seems very popular, it
isn’t in an ideal part of the city. I think the people here should pay less for their rent.

This is a recent apartment building in


Sugarhouse. It is an ideal living area
for many people, with a Whole Foods
right by it and many other attractions
of Sugarhouse. This specific building
is meant for senior living. The prices
are over $1,000 a month for rent and
not every senior would be able to
afford that, though meant for retired
renters, some may not be able to live a
retirement life they want in this
expensive complex. This complex
should also be cheaper so the retired
community can enjoy their retirement
without breaking the bank.
The Irving School is another really well located apartment building also right in the middle of
Sugarhouse. It is located near 1300 E and 2100 South which means the people who live there
have to pay a lot in rent to live in Sugarhouse. This complex houses many people from young to
seniors. I understand why it is expensive to live in but the prices could be lowered to draw in
more residents since they have vacant units.

This apartment complex is a high


end luxury living space, it is located
on 300 West and is over $1,000 to a
near $2,000 a month from one to
three bedroom apartments. This is a
recent building much like the pattern
of many higher end apartments in
Salt Lake City. This apartment
complex is expensive because it is a
luxury one, but it shouldn’t be
placed on the outskirts of the city,
that should at least be for affordable
apartments.
This apartment is also considered high end,
located right behind West High School. Many of
the units are upwards to about $2,000 a month.
This apartment complex is meant for luxury
living with a large public pool on the roof of the
building. This building is fairly new as well but
not everyone can afford it which is why they have
many open units. This is another luxury
apartment complex that should be in the center of
town rather than the outskirts so people can
afford to live in the city.

The Citifront apartment complex is one


near the end of North Temple. This location
has a barbershop, a convenience store, and a
coffee shop at the base of the building. It is
an apartment building for young people
who can afford to live a fun lifestyle. A lot
of stuff is right there in their visitor parking
area. Some of the units have income
restricted meaning low income families can
afford to live in the units with more than
one bedroom. This complex should be the
inspiration for others, it’s nice and people
can afford to live in it, even lower income
families.
This house is located on U Street in the Avenues where the houses are notorious for being
expensive. This house in particular is now worth up to $1.1 Million which is a large amount for a
house in a small city. This house is affordable to the richer people, but this area is meant more
for people who want to live in a more luxurious area and home. A house this big is worth a lot of
money, not just because of the size, but because it is in historic Salt Lake City. The price to me is
understandable but still could be lower because it doesn’t look like it is worth a million dollars.

This apartment building is right behind the Greek


Orthodox Church, the area is nice with Pioneer park
nearby and many local shops and events. The
apartments are very old though and you can see them
deteriorating from the outside. Many of the tenants
also seem to be young. These apartments are more
affordable for young people getting a start in the city
but they are living in a building they may not be safe
for them. I think that this apartment is reasonably
priced for the condition of the building. The
landlord/landlady should still fix parts of the building
so they are safe. I wouldn’t want to live in them
because the building doesn’t look safe.
Many people in our local government are trying their best to make housing in Salt Lake City and
Utah in general more affordable. Derek Kitchen is a senator who has been pushing a bill to make
housing in Salt Lake City more affordable for everyone. Kitchen started a plan that makes units
affordable for seniors and is working his way up to affordable housing for all. There is a lot of
laws and bills introduced to the Utah lawmakers every year, but we need to stand up more for
affordable housing. Young people shouldn’t work 60 hour weeks to afford their apartment.
People don’t want to end up homeless or live with their parents until they’re in their late 20s. We
need to vote on the proper bills to help those around us have a home.

road is a police car. Not all of these
people are drug addicts and criminals,
they may just be people who couldn’t
afford a home in Salt Lake City. This
is an effect of the high prices of
apartments in the City. The
affordability of the apartments and
housing in Salt Lake is so low that we
have a large homeless population.
Luckily, the homeless rates are going
down but they still need a place to
live. They shouldn’t pay $900 for an
apartment every month, instead they should be able to get back on their feet.
