5 Year Plan

Starting after I graduate I am going to be moving to Lansing Michigan with my dad. I

have registered and got accepted to Lansing Community college and will be attending there

starting in the fall semester. I will be attending the school for 2 years then transferring to a

University to study Social Work. My major for the Community college will be in Human

Services because they do not provide a Social Work course. I chose to move here to go to school

mainly because I miss my family and also they can provide me much more information about

how to get through college and the beginning of my adult life rather than guessing my way

through in Merced.

During my first semester in college I plan to have a part time job to support my payments

for my tuition and other payments. I will not have much of a requirement to pay for many things

like food, rent, etc. because I will be living with family and they have agreed to help me with

many things. To help pay for things like food and bills, I would like to work maybe in retails

(clothing stores, Grocery stores, Shoe stores, etc.). This is mainly because I like to be able to

express myself and be comfortable in an environment that I could be myself and not put on a

different face everyday. I would prefer to work everyday depending on my school schedule. I do

not mind working as long as I can get my other important things done also.

Getting to and from places as in School or Work would not be much of an issue because

my dad has made the decision of giving me a car when I move there. I might have to get rides

from him for a month or so before I can start driving myself because I will need to apply for my

Drivers License. With me moving across the United States, there is coming many benefits I am

receiving that will be provided by my family so that I will not have to struggle with certain
things. Of course there will be things I will need to pay for like fun things and maybe my phone

bill, but other than that I will have a bunch of help with almost everything.

My goal right now is to graduate from Lansing Community College and transfer to

Michigan State University or any University. When I get to a University my major will be in

Social Work, and I will be working awfully hard to achieve my Bachelors Degree, eventually my

Masters Degree and maybe even a PhD. For my career I would either like to become a Therapist

or anything that has to do with helping troubled people and/or families. Doing this has been a

goal of mine since my Junior year due to traumatic occurrences. It was a difficult situation but it

motivated me to want to help others that have experienced similar things. I do not see myself

actually working in my chosen career in the next 5 years but I do definitely see myself in training

or continuing my education to learn about certain things to help me succeed in my career.

In my fifth year I see myself being a Junior at a University having more knowledge about

my major than ever before. Hopefully I will have my first apartment with my significant other,

by then being together for 7 years, and succeeding in school closer to being who I pictured

myself as 4 years prior. I have seen what not graduating High School brought to some of my

family and I want to be that person who breaks a cycle and becomes something huge in life. I

like to be financially stable and being able to say yes to things without having to worry about if it

would cause me to not be able to pay bills or not have enough money for other things.

To conclude all of this craziness, my main goal in life is to not have the life I seen others

experience when I was in high school. I am going to be the person in my family that didn’t give

up and kept on pushing through until I made it!
