NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF TECHNOLOGY

Introduction:

Nowadays, technology is part of our routine. We spend more time online than ever before
and the Internet plays a key role in various areas of our lives. Technology has facilitated our
lives and our communication with the world, but it also has a lot of negative effects on our
health, in the environment, and in many other areas.

Negative aspects:

● Health: people spend a lot of time in front of computers, not only when they are
working but also in their free time, causing a lot of sedentarism in our society.
Sedentarism has increased in the last few decades and as a consequence of it,
obesity and depression have increased too.
● Social: even though technology has improved the communication between people, it
has also caused isolation. We prefer communicating online instead of talking to
someone in person.
● Environment: the excess of power consumption and of deforestation, among other
things, have caused drastic climate changes around the world: global warming,
extinction of birds, plants and also greater propensity for diseases.
● Labor markets: regarding economy, technology has played an important role. Every
office has computers and depends on them. Companies require efficient employees
who need to know how to work fast with different systems. This is an easy task for
most young people, but those who didn’t grow up using technological devices need
more training and help, making it harder for them to find a job. Also, many jobs
usually performed by people were taken over by machines, like cashiers in most
supermarkets.
● Privacy: social media sites encourage people to be public about their personal lives.
Even though most websites allow users to control who sees the things they have
posted, such limitations are often forgotten. According to researchers, the problem
with lack of privacy will only get worse with the further development of technology.
● Childhood: the overuse of technology can affect a child’s own mood. Experts said
that with less physical contact, children might have difficulty developing social skills
and emotional reactions. In addition, improper use of technology can expose a child
to numerous risks because they may share information that can put them in danger
without them even knowing it.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, technology makes our lives easier but the overuse and the need we have
developed towards it has increased to a level that may endanger our lives and environment
if we aren’t careful.
