Cooperative Lesson Plan

Strategy “Round Robin”


● Present a category (such as “Names of Mammals”) for
discussion. Have students take turns going around the group
and naming items that fit the category
● Have students in groups come up with a specific word

I. Describe the class


A. 20 students, Kindergarten, 4 LD, 1 Gifted, 2 ELA

II. Subject/Skills
A. Subject: Reading
Skill: Reading Skill, extended students vocabulary

III. Objectives
● The students will get into groups to find out which
words will rhyme with the word provided
● Each student in the group will be responsible for
coming up with 2 words that rhyme that doesn’t match
else’s in the group
● Students will learn different words in the process

IV. Procedures
1. Each student will get into a group of 4 according
where the seating chart is
2. Teacher will present each group with a card with a
word the students must find 8 rhymes for
3. Once sitting with their group students will use the
“Round Robin” strategy to name the rhyming word
4. One of the students then will be with the providing
student’s name next to it
5. Students will be given 10 minutes to come up with
terms
6. After the ren minutes are up the teacher will go
around group to group asking for the rhyming words and
afterwards collect the paper.
V. Materials
1. Cards
2. Marker to write the words on the card
3. Writing utensil for students
4. Paper for the students
VI. Grouping structures
1. Group size: 4 students per group
2. Learning a broader vocabulary through finding the
rhyming terms
3. Location: Classroom
VII. Modifications
1. ELA: Allow them to write words down for future
understanding
2. Gifted: Gifted students go first and assist the ELA
students in writing
3. LD: Go last in the group to fully understand the
exercise
VIII. Assessment
● Homework sheet will be distributed to each student.
● The homework sheet will have 5 words which the
students will be responsible for finding 3 rhyming
words each.
● To be collected the next day
IX. Elements of Cooperative Learning
A. Individual Accountability Each student will have the
responsibility of providing 2 rhyming words
B. Positive Independence
Each student will inspire another by providing new
terms making it easy to keep the flow of new words fun
and constant
C. Social Skills/Face to Face Interaction
Each student will learn to get along with unfamiliar
students by interacting with them. Promotes a higher
level of comfort with unfamiliarity
D. “Round Robin”
Present a category of discussion. Have students take
turns going around the group and naming items that fit
the category

E. Evaluations
Students will receive a grade based upon coming up
with correct answers
F. Trust Students will open up and display kinder
emotions based upon making the unfamiliar familiar.
