This article explores the results of a study done on disadvantaged students in urban New
York. The students were allowed to participate in a program that allowed them to lease
laptops from the school. As a result the students achieved greater academic success.
Attendance also increased. Some students who were enrolled in special education, were
graduated to general education classes.
