In five years, I will be graduating from Simpson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in
psychology. I will be living in an apartment with some friends from college, and be working a
part time job in Redding. I will be getting ready to go to graduate school to receive my Master’s
in psychology as well. In addition, I will be applying for a paid internship that is in my field of
work. All these hopes, dreams, and visions, but how did I get here?
The University of California Davis has always been my dream ever since I was a little
girl. I never looked into other schools, and had my eyes set on going to Davis for college.
Everytime we did college research, I researched Davis even when I already knew all the general
information. Along with wanting to attend UC Davis, I also wanted to become a lawyer. My
father attended Davis, and was also a lawyer. Therefore, I was familiar with these aspects and fit
myself into them. I was in awe of the thought of these educational and career goals when they
weren’t really for me. However, as I went along this journey of life and figuring out who I am, I
found that a private school fits me best. Therefore, I gladly pronounce that I will be attending
When I attend Simpson University in Redding, CA, I plan to major in psychology and
minor in discipleship and education ministries. Ever since my interest for Simpson sparked at a
college fair I went to my senior year, I have been looking into it. Going to this college fair at the
beginning of my senior year changed my direction and led me to the path of self discovery. It
was one of those “love at first sight” moments, and I knew that Simpson was the school for me.
Due to my active role in the church and youth group, I realized that the resources Simpson
offered were to my liking. They offer education and the opportunity for me to expand and
explore my faith. Not only are the resources that Simpson offers to my liking, but so is the
campus atmosphere. The beautiful, green, and homey atmosphere of the campus was something
that also pulled me in. Never in a million years would I have thought that I would want to and
church. Going away for college will allow me to expand my faith and reach out to the different
churches in the community. Each church has their own way of doing things, yet they all seek
one purpose of bringing others closer to God. Therefore, I hope to find a church in college that
suits me and helps me with my relationship with God. Growing and maintaining my relationship
During my freshman year of college, I plan to live in the dorms, then find an apartment to
live in after that. To maintain the finances of living in a shared apartment, I aim to have a part
time job that will provide what I need. A part time job will be the best option for me because I
will be able to juggle school and work at the same time, instead of focusing on one more than the
other. In addition, my parents will be helping to pay for a lot of my finances throughout college
as well. As my years in college progress, I hope to get an internship or job that relates to the
psychology field. This will help jumpstart that career so I am able to have experience and gain
the necessary skills. The work experience I attain from this internship will also help me to get
graduate school to get my Master’s also will allow me more job opportunities in life. I believe
Attending and graduating from Simpson University is one of many of them. I hope that I make
decisions and choices that will benefit myself and my future. In addition, I hope that the
continuation of this journey of life is one that helps me grow to the person I am meant to be.
