CHAPTER 2

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter describes the research method, respondents, instruments, statistical treatment

of data, and the setting of the study.

Research Method

This study will use the descriptive-survey method in which the researchers administer a

survey to the entire population or to the required respondents in order to get the opinions, view,

feelings, and thoughts of them. Through the questionnaires, we can collect the opinion of the

respondents and will carefully analyze each data to describe their responses to the research

questions. After the results will been gathered, the researchers will interpret the meaning of the

data by relating the results to the statistical test (Cole, 2017).

Research Respondent

Diversity sampling is the method which the members are selected intentionally across the

possible types of responses to capture all possibilities. This method is under with non – probability

sampling. The respondent of the research are the teenage mothers or mother who had pregnant

during her teenage year. The population of teenage mothers will be checked at the barangay health

center or at the barangay office so that we can get the exact mother of respondent. The data will
only be collected to those mothers who are willing to answer the survey questions and also willing

to volunteer and provide time to participate in the study.

Research Setting

In this study, all the data will be collected at barangay Washington, Surigao City. Barangay

Washington, formerly Poblacion, is a barangay in Surigao City, in the province of Surigao del

Norte. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 18,900. This represented 12.26% of

the total population of Surigao City. Barangay Washington is a place where beautiful live in peace,

in love and harmony, helping one another in order to achieve community projects.

We will get the teenage mother’s population and the required respondents randomly. If we cannot

get the required respondents and the population is not enough on the said barangay, we will extend

to the nearest barangay that we will found.

Research Instruments

The researchers will design an interview schedule as one of the data collection instrument

for this study. The teenage mothers will now be interviewed. The interview questions were aimed

at eliciting relevant information concerning teenage pregnancy at barangay Washington. Part 1 of

the questionnaire will solicit information about the profile of the participants as to age, civil status,

and their educational attainment. The second part of the questionnaire will focus on the factors

affecting the early pregnancy among teenagers. The questionnaire of the research will be validated

by the instructor, adviser and the panels of the said research.

Data Collection Process

In conducting the study, the researchers will send a letter of request to the college Dean to

conduct the study outside the school. Another letter will be sent to the head of barangay

Washington to ask them for approval for the said research and for the population of the teenage

mothers in their barangay. After the approval, we will personally interview the mother to provide

privacy in the factors affecting their early pregnancy. The data will now be sorted, analyzed and

interpreted.

Statistical Treatment

The data gathered will determine the profile and factors affecting early pregnancy among

the teenagers. Frequency count and percentage distribution will be used.
