Slide valve actuator installation instructions
Mechanical installation for the capacity and volume
slide valve actuator.
The installation procedure is the same for both the
capacity and volume actuators. The installation does
not require removing the refrigerant charge from the
system.
Removal of the old style actuators with
potentiometer position sensing.

1. Turn off the power to the control panel.
2. Remove the actuators plastic cover (six#10 hex
head cap screw).
3. Remove the gasket from the mounting plate.
4. Disconnect the potentiometer and motor wires.
5. Remove the gear-motor assembly with the
square tubing bracket, (for - 5/16” screws under the
mounting plate)
6. Remove the ¼” nut, washer, plastic gear and steel
gear from the command shaft. To remove the steel
gear, loosen the socket head set screw, which locks
the gear to the command shaft.

The mounting pedestal and adapter shaft must

be installed before this procedure can be
implement. Refer to the installation of retrofit
kit if the actuator does not have the mounting
pedestal and shaft already installed.
On certain units with an economizer , the actuator
bottom bracket may have to be turned 180° from
the position shown in the diagram. Refer to the
installation of the retrofit kit section for instructions.
1). Remove the two side covers from the mounting
pedestal (four hex washer head tapping screw).
2). Verify that the four #10 tapped holes that will
be used to secure the actuator pedestal to the
mounting plate are good conditions.
3). Install the key in the command shaft key slot.
4). Install clamping supplied collar on the
actuator shaft , leaving it loose enough to slide
freely, but tight enough that it will not slide off
of the shaft under its own weight. Position the
collar so that the end of the shaft and most of
the slots are visible.
5). Rotate the actuator so to align one of the
slots in the actuator shaft aligns with command
shaft key and then push the actuator straight
down over the command shaft until the pedestal
touches the mounting plate.
6). Use a screwdriver to verify that the key is
fully seated in command shaft slot and the
command of the key is aligned with the end of
the actuator shaft.
7). Slide the shaft collar down to where it is flush
with the shaft end.
8). Rotate the shaft collar so that the ¼” socket head
cap screw is accessible.
9).tighten the shaft collar screw.
10).rotate the actuator so that the four mounting
holes in the pedestal align with the four mounting
holes in the plate.
11).install the four # 10 hex cap screw hand tight.
12). Verify that the pedestal is touching the
mounting plate.
13). Tighten the mounting screws to 66 in/lbs. use
Loctite #242 or equivalent on the threads.
14). Tighten the ¼” socket head cap screw in the
collar to 16 ft/lbs (192in/lbs). Tightening this screw
to the correct torque is very important. Failure to do
so might cause the shaft to break under load.
15). Install the two side covers on the pedestal.
