A 6 pole 500V DC motor has 720 wave connected conductors in its armature. The full load armature current is
70A and the flux per pole is 0.02wb. The armature resistance is 0.2ohm and the contact drop is 1Vper brush.
Calculate the full load speed (15 marks)
A six-pole, lap-connected generator is driven at 600rpm. It has 100 slots with 24 conductors per slot. What is the
magnitude of the generated emf? If the number of conductors per slot is changed to 20.At what speed should the
generator be run for the same voltage to be generated? The flux per pole is 0.02Wb. (15 marks)
A 250V DC shunt motor has Rf=150Ω and Ra=0.6Ω.The motor operates on no-load with a full field flux at its base
speed of 1000 rpm with Ia=50A.If the machine drives a load requiring a torque of 100 Nm, Calculate armature current
and speed of motor. If the motor is required to develop 12 kW at 1200 rpm. What is the required value of the external
series resistance in the field circuit? Assume linear magnetization. Neglect saturation and armature reaction.

Determine developed torque, shaft torques and lost torque of a 220V, 4 pole series motor with 800 conductors
wave connected supplying a load 8.2 kW by taking 45A from the mains .The flux per pole is 25 mWb and its
armature resistance is 0.6Ω. (15 marks)
A 4 pole lap wound DC shunt generator has a useful flux/pole of 0.6wb.The armature winding consists of 200
turns , each turn having a resistance of 0.003ohms, calculate the terminal voltage when running at 1000 rpm if
armature current is 45A. (15 marks)
