Abstract
The study determined the Reading Literacy of Grade II Pupils in Mother Tongue

of Kalibo Pilot Elementary School, Capitol Site, Kalibo, Aklan, School Year 2017

– 2018. It investigated the reading literacy of the respondents. The researcher used the

descriptive design of research. The frequencies, percentage, mean and verbal

interpretation was used as statistical tools. The respondents of the study are the thirty four

Grade Two Pupils taken by total enumeration. Findings revealed that most of the

respondents are at the right age for their grade level. Statistical Analysis revealed that the

Grade Two Pupils have a moving towards mastery level of reading literacy in Akeanon.

There is a significant relationship between reading literacy and teaching techniques. It is

recommended that the school administrators should encouraged teachers to attend

trainings, seminars especially in mother tongue subject and finish their Master of Arts

degree to improve their techniques and strategies in improving the learner’s reading

literacy in mother tongue. Sufficient trainings and seminars in Mother Tongue should be

conducted for teachers to continuously upgrade their competencies in developing and

improving the learning performance of pupils.
