Ross, Rachel. “The Science Behind Composting.” LiveScience, Purch, 12 Sept. 2018

www.livescience.com/63559-composting.html.

In this article, Ross discusses the three different stages of compost, what

microorganisms help the process, anaerobes and aerobes being the main classes and

what to put and not put in the compost. The information is well-researched and gives

insight on what goes on during the composting process, not just how to do it.

The detailed information was used in my research process, because my project was

about the composting process and experience, not the biology involved in it, I only used

small parts of the article to help me get a basic idea.

Singer, Lauren. "Compost: Let's Break It Down (Literally)." Trash is for Tossers,

trashisfortossers.com/compost-lets-break-it-down-literally.

Lauren Singer, a zero waste lifestyle blogger and youtube star started the blog “Trash is

for Tossers” in 2012 after starting a zero waste lifestyle detailing her journey, sharing

her tips and tricks along the way. In this blog post, she briefly explains the

environmental impact of organic waste which has not been properly decomposed, and

talks about the different types of compost, such as indoor composting, backyard
composting and how to get started. The blogpost is well organized, and though not very

detailed, a good introduction to compost as a whole.

This blog helped me decide which kind of compost was ideal for my situation, and was

great inspiration for my blog. Generally, this blog post was very helpful to me, but

because it is a personal blog, a lot of the information and opinions are subjective, not

making it a very credible source.

"Troubleshooting." Planet Natural,

www.planetnatural.com/composting-101/making/problems/.

Planet Natural not only offers a plethora of products related to gardening and

composting, they also provide great tips on how to compost. In this article, they listed

the most common problems that surface when composting, such as odor, temperature

and pests and how to solve them. Each problem is divided into detailed sub-categories

for different types of compost which share the same issue, the causes for these issues,

and their solutions, making it easy to find specific information.

The information was well organized, and was great help whenever I ran into a minor

problem with my compost. I was able to find the causes of those problems, and quick

ways to solve them. The website seems very dedicated to compost, whether it be the
products or the articles, both are credible and very useful for someone just starting to

compost.

Valenzuela, Raul. "Can Composting Fix the Trash Issue in Lima, Peru?" | International

& Executive Programs | UC Berkeley,

iep.berkeley.edu/content/can-indoor-composting-fix-trash-issue-lima-peru.

In this article, Raul Valenzuela, the founder and CEO of Lima Compost, a Lima based

compost company, talks about the reasons and extent of trash production in Lima, Peru,

and about their company. Lima Compost, founded May, 2015, strives to fight the trash

issue in Lima, which is caused by poor waste management and corruption by providing

compost workshops, encouraging citizens to take a step in helping the environment.

Their goals are clearly stated, along with statistics of their progress and the impact of

composting on Peru’s environment. Although the author comes to a conclusion that

composting alone is not enough to fix the trash issue in Peru, the information given was

honest and accurate.

This article was extremely helpful in giving me more insight about the current waste

situation in Peru. I used a lot of the facts in my own blog post about why we should

compost, and how it is important for our city.
