Hotel Suite
Hospitality Design

Problem:
Located on Keuka Lake in Penn Yan, New York. The
Battalion Hotel was looking to renovate their King Suite.
They are hoping that the remodel will increase traffic at
the hotel and attract more tourists and business
travelers. They hope to use a piece of art piece to inspire
the design of the suite. Making sure that the overall
design is inventive, comfortable, and contains the ‘I Don’t Want to Hear it’ by Michel Keck
appropriate amenities. ADA accessibility is one major
requirement within the suite.

Solution:
My influence on the hotel suite was the art piece named
‘I Don’t Want to Heat it’ by Michel Keck. Some of the
main elements that was extracted from the piece and Color Strip
use as influence in the hotel was the autumn like colors
and darker elements, this will make the clients feels
warm and cozy in the space. The furniture pieces wee
selected based off the abstract strokes throughout the
work of art. The suite has ADA accessibility, allowing
anyone and every one to enjoy a nights stay or even
longer.

Problem:
For this project, the main goal was to design and furnish
an upscale private office for the Executive Director of the
Ovation Travel Agency. The design required that the
space was comfortable for all users and was unique.
Some amenities that were to be included were ample
workspace for day to day tasks, filing storage, small table
for small meeting or gatherings, and proper furnishings Ovation Travel Agency
for the space. This design was meant to give the private
office a new facelift that provides a fresh and
adventurous attitude the company is looking for, while
keeping it sophisticated and functional.

Solution:
This private office for the Executive Director was inspired
by the color pallet that was taken from the Ovation
Travel Agency logo. Grays, whites, and blues were used
for the color scheme throughout the space, and there
are touches of blue in the furniture upholstery. The
overall space was to have the feeling of being clean and
crisp. Having a functional design but also allowing for
multiple furniture arrangements to fit all the needs for
the user.

About:
The public portion of the travel agency was inspired by
the same color scheme the Executive Office design but
with a compass concept. The floor plan consists of
multiple areas including the work stations, conference
room, reception, managers office and the executive
office. Each area has details that were inspired by a
compass. The waiting area has circular seating, mocking
the compass shape. And the work stations have a central
collaboration area with private desk systems radiating
off. The overall design of the Travel Agency was to have a
sophisticated look while being comfortable and
welcoming.

Problem:
A kitchen remodel was needed for an existing kitchen.
Elements of design that were important when thinking
about the new kitchen design was the functionality of
the space, and the natural light coming into the space.
The floor plan only allows for two windows that will let
in natural light. Designing a floor plan that was
functional, visually pleasing, and bright enough was the
challenge for this project.

Solution:
The floor plan for the space shows that it is a U shape
kitchen. The plan shows that there are mainly base
cabinets and only floating shelves on either side of the
sink. This is to allow for the natural light to enter into the
space and not have the upper cabinets block it. There is
a variation of the base cabinets that line three walls that
allow for storage, and a pantry that allows for food
storage. The rest of the plan is only to allow for function
and flow in the overall area.

Residential Design

Problem:
A New York City apartment was stripped down to the
studs and redesigned by using the process of finding the
midpoints. The process of finding line, plane, and point
were used to create new architectural details. The whole
apartment needed to have different casework and
molding throughout the space, and contain different
ceiling details. The new floor plan should have a good
flow through the space and should result in the best
function for the users.

Solution:
Point, plane, and line were used to create three different
ceiling features within the space. A barrel vault in the
entry, a tray ceiling in the kitchen, and exposed beams in
the living room. This process was also used to design the
panel wall in the bedroom, the built-in fire place in the
living room, and molding throughout the apartment.
Other elements of the apartment were kept simple in
result to simple living, and an ease of life.

Exhibition Design

Problem:
The main focus for this project was to take the research
that was completed for the Senior Capstone paper and
design an exhibition space. The exhibit is meant to teach
guest about the research that was found through
different vignettes, while having the space be ADA
accessible and interactive.

Nordic Style

Solution:
The exhibition that was designed was an exhibit that
taught guest about storage solutions and organization
for the home. This was done by designing different
showroom vignettes that mocked different rooms of the
home. These vignettes have the proper furniture and
organizational techniques that teaches and shows
visitors options to keep that portion of the home
organized and functional. The Nordic Style was found
throughout the design. This is due to the fact that the
Nordic Style is a style that focuses on the functionality of
the space through its furniture while keeping it visually
pleasing for the users.
