November: Priests’ Appreciation Dinner

The Month of
Remembrance
The month of November is dedicated to commemorating
our loved ones who have died in the Lord. The shrine of
St. Joseph in our church will be suitably decorated for the
month of November. The Book of the Dead will be
available to receive the names of our dearly departed.
All Souls Day envelopes will be available throughout the
month of November for those who wish to have their loved
ones remembered at the Eucharist.

Our committee met on October 30th and we have
determined there are two areas of concern for our attention
and focus:
1. Repairs and Upgrades
2. Space Issues
New Members: We welcome four new committee

Join us in honouring our parish priests - past and present
as we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Our Lady of
Sorrows Parish. So far, eleven priests have confirmed
their attendance: Rev. Peter Botman, Rev. Leo Burns,
Rev. Nino Cavoto, Rev. Edward Ewczynski, Rev. Ronald
Krafchik, Rev. Evain Marchand, Rev. John Newton,
Msgr. Mariano Polito, Msgr. Kenneth Robitaille, Rev.
Edward J. Smith, Rev. Charles Van Item & Rev. John
Vetere.
Tickets: $35 per person - available from parish office.
Reservations can be made for tables of 6.
Volunteers Needed: Volunteers are needed (5-10 pm) to:
serve at the buffet table, clear tables and assist with clean
up in the kitchen. High School students looking to fulfill
volunteer hours are also welcome. If you can offer your
time to help make this event a success, please leave your
name and phone number with the parish office.

Iraqi Refugee Sponsorship Ministry
Next Meeting: This Monday, November 8th
at 7:30 pm in the parish hall.
There are several ways to support the Refugee Ministry in
our parish.
Active Participation: If you would like to learn more
about what is involved in helping our refugee family get
settled, you are welcome to attend Monday’s meeting.
Many levels of involvement are available, depending on
your availability and interest.
Financial Assistance: If you wish to financially support
the resettlement work, please make out a cheque payable
to: Our Lady of Sorrows Church and place it in the regular
collection in an envelope labelled “Refugee Sponsorship”.
Prayers: Please pray for: the family our parish is
sponsoring; all refugees and the members of this ministry.
Shepherds’ Trust Collection
Next Weekend - November 13th / 14th
Our priests faithfully serve our families, in our churches,
schools, hospitals, nursing homes, missions and on our
streets, and for that we are very grateful. The Shepherds’
Trust does more than just bridge the gap in our priests’
retirement years; it says thank you in a very tangible way
for the blessings we have received. Your generosity next
weekend is deeply appreciated.
Please place your envelope marked “Shepherds’ Trust” into
the collection basket, along with your regular weekly
offering.

Preparing for the
Sacrament of Reconciliation
(Confession)
Parents of children who have been registered with Our
Lady of Sorrows Church to prepare for First Communion
must attend a meeting to receive resources and discuss
the preparation for the celebration of reconciliation
(confession).
Parent Meetings:
We ask that only parents attend this meeting,
(approximately 90 minutes). You are required to attend
only one meeting, so please choose the one which is most
convenient for your family:
Sunday, November 14th, 2010 at 2:00 pm
or
Wednesday, November 17th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Preparing for Confirmation
Registration - Nov. 20th / 21st
After all Sunday liturgies on the weekend of November
20th / 21st (Saturday evening and Sunday morning), a
Registration Desk will be set up in the Parish Hall for the
Confirmation Preparation Program.
Please bring:
- the completed Registration form,
- a legible photocopy of the candidate’s Baptismal
Certificate
- the $10.00 gown rental fee
(please indicate your child’s height on the form)
Confirmation Sponsor:
The registration form asks for the name of the Sponsor.
The Sponsor must be:
- a baptized, confirmed and practicing Catholic
- aged 16 or older, male or female.
If you are unable to attend the weekend registration, we
ask you to bring the completed form and rental fee to the
office no later than December 1st.
