The JiL: Vertical Fill Packaging Machine for Snack Chips was developed to give solution
to the absence of low-cost packaging for the MSMEs (Micro, Small, Medium, Enterprises) in
Caraga Region. The full system was controlled pneumatically with the use of Arduino Mega 2560.
The design was inspired to be portable. The system is uncomplicated to control, and the mechanics
are easy to understand. The materials used are low cost yet efficient for food processing. It was
built with the use of locally available materials. The prototype machine has the following
subcomponents: Rollers, Shaking Plate, Hopper, Forming Tube and Sealers. The testing of the
output pack was inspired by the US Department of Health and Human Services and Food and
Drugs Administration. The series of tests being followed were Air leak testing- wet method, Burst
testing and the Compression, Squeeze testing. It was concluded that the machine passed all tests
