Statement

My photographs consist of primarily various technologies with

access to the internet, or photos of devices that provide people with
access to the internet, such as routers and modems. In some
cases, my photos consist of people using these devices in order to
show how frequently we rely on modern technology while going
about our everyday lives. With that, it reveals just how exponentially
large this issue is and how it will affect us all if the repeal stays the
way it is. My work comes through the eyes (or eye) of a camera,
showing the reality, and the interpretation less-so. I would get up
close and personal with the objects I decided to take a photo of and
then, of course, touch up on these images. Not because I wanted
to, obviously not, but because I needed to. Not for personal gain,
like a grade or something, but because I needed to convey a strong
sense of relatability between the me, my photos, and the observer.
As mentioned previously, my photos bring light a social issue that
not everyone seems to take notice to or raise an eyebrow to when it
is brought up, confused. Of course, this issue will not be on par with
other more severe issues such as bullying or poverty, but
regardless, it is still an issue that needs a voice to be heard. I tried
to show feelings of equality to show how many people will be
affected by the net neutrality repeal. While I doubt that I had any
impact on the message I tried to convey, I certainly hope that
someone will be able to see my work and decide to bring light to the
topic in their own way, safely. While the final piece was far from
what anyone would’ve liked, I hope to improve in my photo-taking
abilities for any work I would like to produce in the future, either
professional or recreational.

Biography

Oscar Corona was born on February 27th,

2003 in California. His experience in
photography had been rather mundane,
as he is not entirely interested and
invested in the activity, and primarily does
it in order to be graded by his teacher in
order to graduate. His reasoning for why
he had chosen this topic is mostly due to
the fact that the repeal of Net Neutrality is
not only detrimental to those in his
community, but the entire United States
could be affected by the ISPs’ ability to
throttle consumers who don’t make the
decision to pay for “fast-lane” connection
speeds. In his time learning about
photography, he has yet to learn much if
he so desires to continue, but what he has
learned is how the various angles in which
photos are taken are very important and
he will consider when viewing any
professional photos in the future.
