ABSTRACT

The society has not given enough opportunities to the differently able people to leverage on
the new existing technologies in the world. The need to give opportunities to people with
disabled arm to leverage on the new technologies has been our primary objective in the design
and development of this project. This is because physically handicapped people are also an
important resource of our society and they can equally and immensely contribute towards the
development of our nation and hence the need for their inclusion in today’s informational
world.
The project involves the design and development of a system that would help the arm
disabled/paralysed people to operate a computer system using keyboard essentially. The system
includes two robotic arms that are controlled using a microcontroller and a voice recognition
module which is predefined with voice commands. The arms are placed on a standard keyboard
and they can press any of the keys as per the voice command of the user. The speech recognition
module is interfaced with a microcontroller which will control the robotic arms. The device at
its initial design will be able to use keyboard to type using the arm. Several other features like
operate specific software, working on CAD platforms and application specific operations can
be added to its functionalities by training the device and implementing more libraries.
Thus, focusing on solving the problems for armless people to use keyboard for just
typing as the first feature, our project intends to provide an effortless control of robotic arms
using voice commands to help the arm disabled people to operate a computer system. Therefore
it will help them to take advantage of the existing technologies and hence the opportunities that
comes whereof.
