MATH 10

Content Standard:
Demonstrates understanding of key concepts of measures of position.

Performance Standard:
Is able to conduct systematically a mini-research applying the different statistical methods.

Learning Competency:
Formulates statistically mini-research.

Main Task: Conduct a mini-research of your choice applying any or all of the following
1. Measures of Frequency
2. Measures of Central Tendency
3. Measures of Dispersion
4. Measures of Position
After which, interpret results and make meaningful decisions based on the results to recommend a solution to resolve
at least one difficulty/ies of the community.

Specific Tasks:
1. Form groups of 2 or 3 members each. Assign a leader.
2. Verbally propose a research topic (or the research question you want to answer) of your choice. The following are
some things you need to consider in choosing your topic:
a. Research topic should be of your interest
b. You can use any or all of the measures of position discussed to achieve your research objective
c. The result suggests a solution to a community problem
d. You can obtain the raw data to be used from a survey/ an observation/ any credible agency. (eg. Non
confidential data available within the school, data downloadable in the website of any government agency,
public documents that can be retrieved from any government office, etc)
e. You can finish with in the time allotted
3. Make your Introduction and Methodology.
4. Present orally your introduction and methodology.
5. Incorporate suggestion/s given from the oral presentation. Then let plagscan.com evaluate your output. The
target evaluation should be at most 10%, otherwise edit your output.
6. Obtain the needed data. If you need to get the data from a person/ agency make a request letter following the
required format discussed from your English 8 or Technical Writing.
7. Make your Results and Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendation.
8. Present orally your Results and Discussion.
9. Incorporate suggestions given during the oral presentation and finalize research. Then let plagscan.com evaluate
your output. The target evaluation should be at most 10%, otherwise edit your output.
10. Present orally from introduction to discussion.

If you want/need assistance during Math 10 period, raise your hand and wait for the subject
teacher to approach you. If two or more groups raised their hand at the same time, please be
patient to wait for your turn. If the Math 10 period is insufficient, you can approach your subject
teacher at the library during free time.

GUIDELINES IN MAKING YOUR OUTPUT:
To have a uniform format, please refer to the following guideline which is adapted from the APA guidelines in
making a journal.
A. Sections
Your output will be divided into sections as follows:
1. Title page- title is 10-12 words and should reflect content of the paper

2. Abstract- provides a brief summary of the research. Only report information- do not try to interpret any new
information in this section. The paragraph should be 150-250 words and include one or two sentences of the
following: purpose, method, conclusion and recommendation.
3. Introduction – Your introduction should be a logical flow of ideas that leads up to your objective. This can be
previous facts /researches and/ or theories that are relevant to the current study. Only include information that a
reader needs to know in order to understand your objective, discussion and recommendation. Remember to be
concise and don’t forget to cite all resources used.
-Don’t begin your paper with the sentence, “past research has shown…”. Try to draw your reader in by
saying something interesting or thought-provoking right off the bat.
-The second to the last part of your introduction with a brief overview of your study and finally your
specific objective. The objective should flow logically out of everything that’s been presented.
- The introduction will end with a brief discussion of your scope and delimitation. The scope identifies the
issues to which the research is focused. While delimitation includes factors not included in the research.
4. Methodology
Setting and Participants
- Present all the details about the place and time that may help your readers understand better your study.
Include the reason why the setting was the best fit for the study.
- Discuss the step by step procedure you followed to select your participants
Ethical Considerations
- Discuss how ethically the data was collected.
- Secure an informed consent- equity, honesty, voluntary participation, humane consideration
Instrumentation (if applicable)
- You can adopt a research instrument/ develop your own research instrument. Due to constraint of time,
just work on the content validity by asking an expert/ experts to check the completeness and relevance of
your instrument to your topic.
Data Gathering Procedures

2|Page7
- Detailed and concise description of the step by step process on how to gather the raw data needed for
the study. Don’t forget to include brief statements about informed consent.
Data analysis
- Explain your data analysis method. Explain why they are the best fit for the study. Back your choice with relevant
literature.
5. Results and Discussion - This section contains the results, followed by its interpretation and explanation.
The results can be organized into tables or figures if necessary. Be sure to reference and briefly explain any tables
or figures in the text, but the actual graphics will go at the end of the paper after the reference page. It is
important to remember to only give the data or results of the study in this section.
The discussion of the results allows the student to show that he/she has a thorough understanding of the concept
and results of the study. The main question to answer in this section is, “what is the significance of the results?”.
- In addition, the following are possible focus questions of this section:
Why might the results have turned out that way? Link the results of the current study to the background
literature.
How could the study be improved? Think about what could have been done differently
What is the future direction for research on this topic? After discussing the current study, analysing the
results, and determining ways to improve the research, try to assess what the next step could be.
What are the practical applications of the research? Discuss what the research suggests for the problem
being examined. Why do the results matter?
6. Conclusion and Recommendation
- Summarize your major findings. After which, briefly state things practitioners/ persons directly involved in the
study can do from now on

7. Appendix- place on a separate page following the reference page

a. Reference List- Use journals and news articles from credible websites/ newspapers/ magazines, etc. Use APA
format in doing your reference list
b. Questionnaire- Whether you adapt or develop your questionnaire, use the following format.
Questionnaire Development

member of the LGBT community?

c. Tables and Figures – Every figure should be labelled. For tables, write “Table 1” at the top left of the page and
name the tables in italics below that. For figures, write “Figure 1” below the figure and describe what is shown.
d. Solution
e. Letter/s- letters given to agency/ teacher/ participants

B. General Guidelines:
1. Use white 8 ½ x 11” paper.
2. Make 1 inch margins on the top, bottom, and sides
3. Sections are all caps, centered and bold, while subsections are flush left, bold and capitalized all first letter of content
words like nouns and verbs.
4. The first word in every paragraph should be indented one half inch.
5. Use Times New Roman font, size 12.
6. Single space (with 0 space after and before under spacing) the entire research paper
7. Include a page header known as the “running head”, one half inch from top of every page. The running head is a short
title that appears at the top of pages. It should not exceed 50 characters, including punctuation and spacing. (In the
title page, you write the words Running head, but these words do not appear on the succeeding pages, just the actual
running heads )
1. To create the running head/page header, insert page numbers justified to the right-hand side of the paper
(do not put p. or pg. in front of page numbers)
2. Then type “TITLE OF YOUR PAPER” justified to the right using all capital letters and font size 10.
3. If your title is long, this running head title should be a shortened version of the title of your entire paper
