Downloading Music: Why Music Should be Paid for

Currently downloading music is becoming more popular every day even though it's illegal. The
music industry is trying to fight by taking legal action with more than 14,000 people being
prosecuted for allegedly sharing music online. Many internet users in the United States state that
downloading music is not illegal. However, according to research by the International Federation
of Phonography Industry, about ninety-five percent of the music available on the internet is
downloaded illegally by users. Personally, I believe downloading music shouldn't be illegal
because some singers or music companies want to spread their music in the world to become
famous and they allow users to download it freely.

The music industry should have made a lot of money to sue people for downloading illegal
music. They pay millions to the artists in royalties which is ludicrously contradictory. The music
industry has to realize CD prices are still too expensive for the majority of the people. Therefore
a lot of people prefer to download it instead of buying it. Also, there are just a few legal options
but they are too expensive as well, making the free or illegal option more suitable, common and
easier to use.

My opponent might argue that illegal downloading has some real consequences for the music
industry. One consequence is less money for new talent. Breaking into new artists requires a lot
of time, energy and, of course, money. Illegal downloads are cut into budget records allocated by
companies to find and promote new talents. If the record company bleeds because it loses
billions of dollars because consumers don't pay for songs by established artists, they will take
steps to save money, and one of the first victims of the decision is to cut the budget for talent.

Perhaps one might argue that downloading music should be free. However, it is not always a
good thing, it might be good for the people who download the music but what about the music
industry? It is killing the industry because creating music is a job. And because musicians also
spend an insane amount of money. Furthermore, Music is one of the strongest form of social
linking and relationship building and I’m 101% sure that this world would collapse without it.
It seems clear that cases of downloading music is a general trend and decision of music-lovers
worldwide. Furthermore with all the new technology coming out every day, making you easy for
downloading music because is the only way to put the music in your devices like iPods, mp3 or
any new music devices. Why it´s illegal to download music if is the only way to do it them? To
sum up, as far as I’m concerned, as well as the general opinion download and share music on
internet isn’t wrong it’s just the best way to do it. Sooner or later downloading music has to be
legal because the new music devices make for downloading music and pay extra for
downloading music when they don't giv anymore option.
