This document provides definitions for levels of minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) for various anesthetic gases in young, healthy, unpremedicated adults:
1) 1.5 MAC is the concentration at which 50% of patients will have a blunted autonomic nervous system response to surgical stimulus.
2) 1.3 MAC is the concentration at which 95% of patients will not move in response to surgical stimulus.
3) 1 MAC is the concentration at which 50% of patients will not move in response to surgical stimulus.
4) 0.6-0.8 MAC is the concentration at which most patients will have loss of awareness.
5) 0.3

MAC at which 50% of patients will have blunted ANS response (rise in HR/BP) in response to standard surgical stimulus. (ie stops stress response to surgery) 1.3 MAC MACSUPER MAC at which 95% of patients will not move in response to surgical stimulus (ED95) 1 MAC MAC MAC at which 50% of patients will not move in response to surgical stimulus (ED95) 0.6-0.8 MAC at which most patients will have loss of awareness MAC 0.3-0.5 MACAWAKE MAC MAC at which 50% of patients will open eyes to verbal stimulus (safe extubation) 0.1 MAC Airway reflex resume
All are in young, healthy, unpremedicated adults
MAC expressed as percentage at 1 atm ambient temperature after 15 delivery to allow equilibration to brain effect site.
