Summary Journal: Quarter 1
Quarterly review:

This quarter, I shadowed two Nurse Practitioners, Dr. Lauren and Dr. Angela at Shahab
Malik Pediatric Clinic. I was able to witness multiple cases of patients with illnesses and check
up appointments. Along with witnessing many patients and check ups I was able to gain more
knowledge about my field of interest. Furthermore, I was able to observe an ear infection in a
adolescent patient, which helped establish the basis of what ear infections look like. This led into
more research and a research topic that I will be doing at my internship.

As an Intern Mentor student, I am able to expand my knowledge not only on my research

but on my field of interest as well. I submitted few articles about my research topic and other
articles that relate to my field of interest. Along with my research, I have created my powerpoint
about my research and my experience being in the Intern/Mentor Programme that I will be
presenting in the future.

Obstacles:

I have faced a few obstacles this quarter due to many factors such as, college
applications, SAT test and my other classes. Even though in the beginning I was doing fine on
time management, the workload of college applications and SAT made it harder to maintain my
classes and Intern/Mentor. However, I had to accommodate my schedule and make up hours and
ask for extension on my work in I/M. In spite of that, I managed my time and schedule and was
able to make everything up just in time for the end of the quarter.

Goals:

As of for now my main goal is to continue my internship until the end of Senior year and
to acquire knowledge about my research topic and field of interest. I hope to move onto bigs
things in the duration of the year and create ways to express my research topic to my audience
that are interested. My personal goals, however, are to enjoy the last year of senior year and get
into a college of my liking. Additionally, my english has asked me to mentor a student that is in
distress and I hope I can guide her in the right direction and help her with her distress. I look
forward to achieving my goals and enjoying the last year of High School.
