1. Subject Nacelle – Engine – Installation of the Thrust Reverser Cowl Opening System
(COS) to the engine
This procedure provides instructions to install the Thrust Reverser Cowl Opening System
COS attachments to the new Engine COS Support Bracket P/N 612C9505-001 (LHS) /
612C9506-001 (RHS) during installation of engines listed below per AMM Task 71-00-51-
400-803-A.

3. Procedure
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER
SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME
AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH HOT PARTS WITHOUT APPLICABLE GLOVES. HOT
PARTS CAN CAUSE INJURY. IF YOU GET AN INJURY, PUT IT IN COLD
WATER FOR 10 MINUTES AND GET MEDICAL AID.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU USE CHEMICALS, READ, UNDERSTAND AND OBEY ALL
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CHEMICALS. THESE
INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE
MANUFACTURER, THE MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET (MSDS), AND
GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS. CHEMICALS MAY CAUSE INJURY TO
YOU OR MAKE YOU SICK WHEN SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT

DAMAGE THE SURROUNDING STRUCTURES.
CAUTION: INSTALL A TEMPORARY PROTECTION ON THE SURROUNDING
STRUCTURE DURING ALL THE PROCEDURE.
A. Aircraft
(1) Safety Precautions
(a) On the center pedestral, on ENG panel 115VU:
1 Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
2 Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF
position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
3 Put a warning notice(s) in position to tell persons not to operate the:
- ENG/MODE selector switch
- ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch
(b) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
1 Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2)
pushbutton switch is off.

2 Put a warning notice(s) in position to tell persons not to energize
FADEC 1(2).

(2) Get access

(a) Make sure the Fan Cowl Doors are open. (Refer to AMM TASK 71-13-00-
010-803):

2 FOR 4020KM2 (POWER PLANT – DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

(b) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6FT) – ADJUSTABLE is in
position.
(c) Make sure the Thrust Reverser System is deactivated for Maintenance:
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER
BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU
DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE
ACCIDENTLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR
DAMAGE.
1 Do the deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Nacelle
maintenance. Refer to AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807.
(d) Make sure that the Thrust Reverser latches are opened. Refer to AMM
TASK 78-36-00-010-806.
(e) Install the THRUST REVERSER HOISTING FRAME 2 (P/N 98N7830H022-
000) on the thrust reverser cowl. Refer to Ground Support Equipment
(GSE) notice.

CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN THE HALF THRUST REVERSER MORE

THAN 10 DEGREES. IF YOU DO, THERE IS A RISK OF
CLASH WITH THE PYLON.
(f) Open the half thrust reverser cowl to 10 degrees maximum.

NOTE: When the strap is unloaded the half thrust reverser cowl is
opened at approximately an angle of 10 degrees from the
closed position. The SCALE 1000 KG (2200 LB) indicates
approximately 410 KG.

1 Use the crane to put the THRUST REVERSER HOISTING FRAME 2
(P/N 98N7830H022-000) in tension.
2 Turn the half thrust reverser cowl with the chain hoist until the hoist
strap is unloaded.

(3) Installation of the T/R COS attachments to the new Engine COS Support Bracket
P/N 612C9505-001 (LHS) / 612C9506-001 (RHS).
(a) Installation of the Thrust Reverser COS Actuator.
NOTE: This procedure is given for the Left Thrust Reverser. It is also
applicable to the Right Thrust Reverser.
1 Clean all the COS attachment parts to the Thrust Reverser with a
Textile-Lint Free Cotton (Material No. 14SBA1) made moist with
Diestone DLS (Material No. 08BAA9).
2 Make sure that the finish on the threads of the bolts are not damaged.
3 Put the COS actuator in position.
4 Connect the COS actuator to the Thrust Reverser bracket. Refer to
AMM Task 78-36-51-400-802-A, subtask 78-36-51-420-054-A,
Chapter A. (4).
5 Connection of the COS actuator to the new LH Core COS Support
Bracket (P/N 612C9505-001) (Refer to Illustration 2):
NOTE: This procedure is given for the LH Core COS Support Bracket
(P/N 612C9505-001) but it is also applicable to the RH Core COS
Support Bracket (P/N 612C9506-001).
a Clean the new bushing (P/N FA202256-001) with Textile-Lint Free
Cotton (Material No. 14SBA1) made moist with Diestone DLS
(Material No. 08BAA9).
b Install the new bushing (P/N FA202256-001) on the new LH Core
COS Support Bracket (P/N 612C9505-001).
c Put the actuator in position on the new LH Core COS Support
Bracket (P/N 612C9505-001).
d Clean the new bolt (P/N FA202257-001), new washer (P/N
NAS1149C0863R) and new nut (P/N MS9358-13 or AS9359-13)
with Textile-Lint Free Cotton (Material No. 14SBA1) made moist
with Diestone (Material No. 08BAA9).
e Install the new bolt (P/N FA202257-001).

f Install the new washer (P/N NAS1149C0863R) and new nut (P/N
MS9358-13 or AS9359-13).
g Torque the new nut (P/N MS9358-13 or AS9359-13) to between
55,80 and 68,20 N.m (494 and 603 lbf.in.).
h Install the new cotter pin (P/N MS24665-302) on the new bolt (P/N
FA202257-001).
NOTE: Tighten or loosen the new nut (P/N MS9358-13 or
AS9359-13) by 1/6 of turn to install the new cotter pin (P/N
MS24665-302).
i Put the COS actuator bonding strap in position.
j Install the new screw (P/N MS9556-09) and new self-locking nut
(P/N AS3486-09).
k Torque the new screw (P/N MS9556-09) to between 2,90 and 3,90
N.m (25 and 35 lbf.in.).
l Apply Varnish Electrical Bonding structure (Material No. 04TMB2)
on the screw (P/N MS9556-09) and new self-locking nut (P/N
AS3486-09).

(4) Final instructions

(a) Write in the Aircraft Log Book and/or other applicable document the
information that Service Instruction(s) No. SI320NEO-086 is applied.
(b) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.

(5) Close up
(a) Closing of the half thrust reverser cowl with GSE THRUST REVERSER
HOISTING FRAME 2 (P/N 98N7830H022-000).
1 Close the half thrust reverser cowl with the chain hoist.
(b) Remove the THRUST REVERSER HOISTING FRAME 2 (P/N
98N7830H022-000) from the thrust reverser cowl. Refer to the GSE
notice.
(c) Close the thrust reverser latches. Refer to AMM Task 78-36-00-410-806-A.
(d) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.

(e) Do the reactivation of the Thrust Reverser System after Nacelle
maintenance. Refer to AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-807-A.
(f) Remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6FT) – ADJUSTABLE.

(g) Close the Fan Cowl Doors. Refer to AMM Task 71-13-00-410-803-A:
