A FEW TIPS SA PAGNENEGOSYO

I would like to share with you some insights I have learned from the GO NEGOSYO
SEMINAR that our office in collaboration with the Philippine Center for Entrepreneuship
organized yesterday May 19, 2010 here at CDO. The event was well attended by
almost 900 participants from all over Northern Mindanao (we targeted only 500
participants). NEGOSEM's next stop is BUTUAN CITY.

Most of the topics presented and discussed during the seminar are fully explained in the
book: 21 STEPS ON HOW TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS by Dean Pax Lapid
and Ping Sotto

Importance of Having A Positive Entrepreneurial Mindset

by Ardy Roberto (Founder & Chairman of Salt & Light Ventures, Inc.)

MANGARAP (Dream)
MANIWALA (Believe)
MAGSIKAP (Achieve)

"Your Mind could either be your best friend or your worst enemy"
"You become what you think about most of the time"
"Everyone wants to change the world, but no one thinks/ wants to change himself or
herself"

So, what should we do? We should RESET our mind.

We worry too much:

40% of our population worry about our future
30% worry about the past
12% worry that they will get ill or sick
while 10% worry about their children and friends...in other words 92% of us worry most
of the time

BASIC STEPS in BECOMING SUCCESSFUL in LIFE:

> "Be Optimistic:As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." "You become what you think
about"
> "Pray. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done."
> "We should be true, honest, just, pure and good"

The ENTREPRENEUR's mindset (MBA):

You do not have to earn an MBA (or Masters in Business Administration) to become a
successful entrepreneur. Study and follow the MBA of NEGOSEM

M- Mangarap (DREAM)
> Is your dream worth achieving?
> Is it going to help other people?
> Will achieving your dream give us world peace?

Dreams are free! "What your mind can DREAM, your heart must believe and hands
must ACHIEVE."

But your Dream must not remain a dream. You must translate it into PASSION.
Because if you have the PASSION towards your DREAM, you will ACT on it.

Dream BIG but start small. Even if you start small, for as long as you have planned for it
and put your heart on it, you do as you plan, there is a big probability that you will
"REAP what you SOW."

Put GOD at the center of everything so that HE will give you guidance and focus.

B- Believe (MANIWALA) (from 21 STEPS)

> "It shall be done according to your FAITH"
"Ano ba ang gusto mo paglaki mo?"
"What is stopping us from BELIEVING?" --> "most of us have been brought up NOT to
BELIEVE."
Ex.: "Ano? Gusto mo maging doctor? ... wala na nga tayong pera pangmatrikula,
magdo-doctor ka pa? Ang mahal kayang mag-aral maging doctor."

CHALLENGE: "How then do I start Believing?"

1. Surround yourself with positive and believing people.
2. Flood your mind with positive affirmations
3. Think and act as if your dreams were already realities that you are enjoying today"

A- Achieve (MAGSIPAG)
>You must have your personal brand
L-love
O-Obey
R- Respect
D- Discipline

Don't just settle on becoming SELF-EMPLOYED. BE AN ENTREPRENEUR

Self-employed - you work in your business

Entrepreneur - you work on your business

"You should OWN your business and DON'T LET YOUR BUSINESS OWN YOU"
"Your business is NOT your LIFE!"

So what do you have to do? "FIRE YOURSELF. FIND A WAY TO MAKE THE
BUSINESS RUN WITHOUT YOU."
"The Secret of Success is not keeping your SUCCESS A SECRET." Hire, delegate,
train others to WORK for YOU.

"Don't make your business your escape from family responsibilities."

"PRAY FOR EVERYTHING"

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION

by Reuel Virtucio (Executive Director, Punla sa TAO FOUNDATION)

> Differentiate your product

> Unique selling proposition: your product/ service should be:
- near er - cheap er (but not all the time to avoid cut
- fast er - better quality etc.

HOW TO BRAND YOUR PRODUCT/ SERVICE:

1. Easy to pronounce
2. Easy to remember (madaling tandaan) Use K, Q, V, X, Z
you can follow ALLITERATION (yung inuulit yung unang letra)
eg. Gerry's Grill, Boy Bawang
3. Communicate the value (hindi mo na kelangan maraming salita, sa pangalan pa lang
alam mo na kung ano yung produkto o serbisyo nila)
