b) Evaluate the importance of analyzing problem; and
c) Participate in group works and recitations.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Analyzing Word Problem-Involving Numbers.
B. References: Skills Enhancer in Mathematics 1 (Ma. Teresa Artigas and Eloisa Santos)
C. Instructional Materials: Cartolina; Cartolina Strips; Manila Paper; Pentel Pen; Pictures of
bears, apples and cookies; Art Window; Flowers; Lollipop and Brown Envelope.

III. Learning Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Daily Routine
1. Opening Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Checking of ID’s and Uniforms
5. Checking of Classroom Condition
6. Checking of Assignment

B. Simple Recall

1. Define the following terminologies:

A. addition  The act of adding numbers
B. subtraction  The act of removing or
taking number from
another.

C. Motivation
Oral Questioning

1. I have 10 lollipops and I will give my

5 lollipops to Davies? How many  5 Lollipops
lollipops are left?

2. I’ve seen 30 flowers in the windows,

and I take the 15 flowers, how many  15 Flowers
flowers are left?

3. Nico has 24 cookies and Jane has

25 cookies too, they have decided to  49 Cookies.
combine it. How many cookies are they
have?
D. Lesson Proper

1. Exposition
-Problem Solving

Introduce to the pupils about solving

word problems.

2. Development of the Lesson

- What is Ask?
When you are solving a
simple word problem, you
should determine first what is
the question or what is being
asked in the problem
- What is Given?
Given are the data or the
numbers provided in the
problem.
- What is the Solution?
If there is a problem, there is
a solution, in solving word
problems, solution is the
important because it answers
the question. The solutions is
either adding, multiplication,
division and subtraction.
- What is the Final answer?
The answer to your problem.
In mathematics, it is the
answer to your given problem
or what is being ask in the
problem.

Apply this terminologies by giving

examples of Word problems and
determine it.

1. Anna has 25 apples, she

decided to give 5 apples to
Tony. How many apples are
left to Anna?

- What is asked?
 The asked/problem in the
sentence is, “How many
apples are left to Anna?
- What are given?

 The given are 25 apples

and 5 apples

- What is the solution?

 25 apples-5 apples= 20
apples
- What is your final answer?  20 apples are left with
Anna.

2. Maria has 30 bears and her

brother has 25 bears too.
How many bears are there in
all?

- What is asked?
 The asked/problem in the
sentence is “How many
bears are there in all?
- What are given?

 The given are 30 bears

and 25 bears
- What is the solution?

 30 bears+25 bears= 55
bears
- What is your final answer?

 If we combine 30 bears
and 25 bears, there are 55
bears are there in all

3. Application
Group Activity
Instructions:

The teacher will be grouping the

students into 2 groups, the
teacher will give envelope in each
group that contains materials and
activity in a sheet of paper inside
the envelope. Present it in front.

Please refer to the attached paper

for the group activity: Word
Problem

E. Generalization

1. What is asked?

 When you are solving a

simple word problem, you
should determine first what
is the question or what is
being asked in the problem

2. How can you define if its is a

question or being ask?  I can define if it is ask by
looking for the question
mark, or the statement is
being started by WH
questions.
3. What are given?
 Given are the data or the
numbers provided in the
problem.

4. What is solution?
 If there is a problem, there
is a solution, in solving
word problems, solution is
the important because it
answers the question. The
solutions is either adding,
multiplication, division and
subtraction.

5. How can you determine the

 You should analyze first
solution?
the question or ask in the
statement. If the question
is about to add, you should
use addition. If its is about
extracting or minus, use
subtraction. If it is about
multiplying, you should use
multiplication. If the
question is about dividing,
you should use division.

6. What is Final answer?  The answer to your

problem. In mathematics, it
is the answer to your given
problem or what is being
ask in the problem.

Very good! It seems that everyone of

you learn how to solve word problems,
I’ll be giving all of you a long quiz.
