In modern day radio pop music, the song’s popularity is very closely related to the label

the artist is signed to, and how the label market it. It can’t always be that easy to make a song

popular, so many believe that record labels may take some shortcuts to make more money. One

of those shortcuts is putting high frequencies that only young children can hear to attract them to

their music. The experiment that was performed had people of different age groups listen to older

and newer songs to see who liked what to test if the theory is true.

The procedure consisted of the subjects listening to a 40 second portion of three songs

from pop, to rock, and to rap. Once the songs were played the subjects would rate them on a

scale from one to ten, and then I would later graph the results.

During the testing, there was some varying results within the teenage group, which was

surprising, but there was a lot of difference proved by the older group. With the 2 adults tested,

the modern pop songs were rated very low compared to the rest of the songs. The 4 teens that

were tested rated the pop song significantly higher, which is important to note for the hypothesis.

The results prove the hypothesis stating that the newer pop songs will be more popular among

the younger age group due to their higher frequencies. This research will be important to the

world because it can affect someones everyday life in a simple activity such as listening to the

radio.
