Block 1

Learning Languages

The sound of the T.V was on and a person could be heard speaking in a foreign language.

I go over to the T.V and check what language they are speaking. The language was French due to

the subtitles that were being displayed. I would watch the actors on there talking with no

difficulty and was able to understand them. It’s fascinating. There are people out there learning

multiple languages, but I can only speak two. There is a celebrity that can actually speak about

seven languages well. It surprised me. When I go to the doctor’s, I would hear the nurses

translate what the doctor would say to a family who wasn’t familiar with English. It’s nice how

there are people who can translate for others and help them out with their problem. I looked up to

them because I also wanted to be able to speak various languages.

During my last year in middle school, I went to the library to check out books on how to

speak French. From there, I would practice the words or the phrases that were printed. It was a

hobby that I would do to escape the boredom that I had within myself. Sometimes, that I would

watch videos on youtube to get my pronunciation correct. Later on, in highschool, I would listen

to music that was in different languages, such as Chinese or Korean. I began to explore a few

languages and tried to learn them slowly. I would also watch some shows that were based on

their language to improve myself and catch the words that I know. In addition, I would download

apps to remind me daily of the words that I have learned. It would refresh my memory and

helped me memorize them. It would be nice for me to know that I will be the first one in my

family to know multiple languages.

The possibilities of being multilingual are fantastic. I will be able to help people with

translations. It would be a pleasure for me to help others who are stuck in a language barrier. I

can finally try to write it in the language that I learned. For example, I can write what I want in

French and no one in my family can understand it. In addition, I can speak with others who

know the language and comprehend me. I also can be able to travel to a certain place that speaks

the language I know. I will be able to communicate with them and won’t need a translator to help

and I could try to guide myself.

The advantage of learning languages, can increase a few of my skills. For example, my

self-confidence can increase. I can attempt to talk to native or fluent speakers. That way I can

practice even more and build up my self-confidence. Another skill that I can increase is my

creativity. I can be able to think in other languages, if I can’t remember the phrase or word.

Learning a new language can be easier to learn, since I can have the ability to process multiple

languages.

The wonders of speaking many languages can be fascinating. I can travel to certain

countries and be able to understand them. Also, I can improve my skills with other people that

are native or fluent in that particular language. That would be a fantastic experience for me.
