EXAMPLE 5-011
SOLID –TEMPERATURE LOAD

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
In this example, a 10-inch-square plate, 1 inch thick, restrained at the edges, is
subjected to a 100° F temperature rise that is constant through the thickness of
the plate. A 10x10x1 mesh is used for the plate. Plate stresses resulting from the
temperature load are compared with hand-calculated results.

The perimeter joints at the bottom of the plate have the Ux, Uy and Uz degrees of
freedom restrained. The perimeter joints at the top of the plate have the Ux and
Uy degrees of freedom restrained.
