Mid Project check-up (After Research and planning)
There have been various issues that I have faced in the research and
planning parts of my production. The start was differences in what my
target audience wanted and what BBC Three’ wanted in their factual
programmes. One such issue is that BBC Three like their factual programmes
to have a presenter tackle an issue of the day head on, they also like the
subject of their factual programme to have a personal element to the
presenter. So I thought a good way to present this was to include my own
personal experiences as I am gay myself. When I presented the segments
to my target audience in a survey my personal experiences was the least
favoured idea amongst them. So I have had to take middle ground and
shorten the amount I share my own experiences to make my audience
happier but I still need to include for the BBC Three as it is in their
specifications. One of them main issues I have had throughout the entire
research and planning time is that no one who opposes homosexuality will
speak to me on camera or give me a written statement. The same is true
for professors in the evolutionary biology field, no one will offer to speak to
me for free. I have also had no luck in contacting the two older gay men

for the interview so it may seem I have start thinking about new people to
interview or I may have to rely more heavily on my interviews with the two
younger gay men. Timekeeping is also an issue I have had problems with, I
struggle to keep with the production schedule I have made. The large
amount of topic, target audience and genre research I have had to
conduct and the alterations to my idea due to feedback I received from
my target audience has kept me behind. I plan to dedicate more time
outside of lessons to finishing up my research and creating a better quality
production.
End of project review
An issue I was presented with early on in the planning and filming stage was
that my interviewees would be difficult to organise to film at a certain time
as they were both very busy during exam season with revision and
coursework. One of the men I couldn’t get to interview I decided to drop
instead of trying to reorganise. I was fortunate enough to have
contingency interviewees for my production so I could use them instead.
The two older gay men just dropped communication with me so instead of
chasing them I decided to go on my contingency interviewee. I was not
able to get any professionals or preachers to speak in my factual
programme or organise any contingency interviewees. I believe my
production is not as good as it could’ve been, I had ran into multiple issues
with filming and interviews that staggered the development of my
production. However if I had stuck better to my production schedule and
dedicated more time to finishing the topic, target audience and genre
research before I was meant to start filming I would’ve had more time to
reshoot and reorganise the interviewees; therefore making my production
better in quality overall.
