Fung, and Matt Cassidy What is Desalination - The process of removing minerals, salts, and or dirt from water by boiling water, catching and cooling down the steam to purify water enough for human consumption. ❏ Hot Plate ❏ Aluminium foil How to build ❏ Plastic wrap our desalination ❏ ❏ Tubing Salt Water machine ❏ Ice to transform water vapour back to water Materials we used to create our ❏ Cup filter ❏ Wrap a cup of salt water with aluminum foil, boil it(hot plate) ❏ Insert tube in pot for steam to travel through
How it works ❏ Have another clean cup and
insert the other end of the tube in it ❏ Water gets boiled and steam gets captured into the tube, while particles in water stay behind. What we noticed: - Made water safe to drink through filter. - No visual difference. - Fourth test worked best after we changed tubes/cleaned everything. - First 2 trials weren’t successful, pH of water was very acidic than when it was initially. - Changed materials we used(smaller tube, new beaker) - Changes we made the water neutral and drinkable while before the particles and dirt from the unclean materials would affect the pH level significantly. - New materials made experiments more successful.
