Introduction

There are many tourist destinations here in the Philippines that is potentially beautiful by its

own nature where it is undiscovered and should be discover and developed and help our

municipalities or even our provinces. Pintuyan, Southern Leyte has a few existing tourist

destinations and most of it are potential tourist spot, even though there’s only few tourist spot,

there are still lots of opportunities because of its rich marine and land resources and Pintuyan

has a beautiful attractions and natural beauty from its nature and environment.

Mt. Caningag of Brgy. Buenavista is one of the potential tourist attraction in Pintuyan. It has a

wide grass land that is located on the top of Buenavista, Pintuyan Southern Leyte with an over

view of the Pacific Ocean where it is an open sea, which it has a very refreshing view and a cold

air that will not make you feel the heat of the sun but only the fresh cold air that makes you feel

relaxed.

Goals

1. Preserve the natural beauty of the Mt. Caningag.

2. Develop and build facilities, infrastructure, safety and security for the Mt. Caningag.

3. Ensure that the development of the area will also benefit the residents as well with the

government.

4. Make it a place where the tourist will enjoy and remembered.

5. Increase the number of tourists.

Objectives

1. Provide safety and security plan for the tourist destination, tourists and residents of the

area.

2. Develop and build cottages, rest rooms, stores, and canteen

3. Provide rules, laws and regulations and proper waste management and maintenance.

4. Ask for support for government, LGU’s, etc.

5. Promote the Mt. Caningag as one of the beautiful tourist attraction in Pintuyan, Southern

Leyte.

Area Assessment and Enhancement

On the way to Mt. Caningag, you can go take ride with habal-habal or you can walk, jog or

ride with your own vehicle because their road is already developed however you can't see light

post, signage, or tarpaulins about Mt. Caningag. Mt. Caningag was few meters away from Brgy.

Buenavista proper. When you arrived at Mt Caningag you can see a plain wide grass land. It is a

good location for Mountain Hiking, camping, horseback riding, zip line and other mountain

activities. However it lacks maintenance because it has a many carabao waste and other

unnecessary plants that need to be cut and there are no comfort rooms to be found in Mt.

Caningag. Mt. Caningag lacks power and water supply.

For its enhancement, there are proposed project to be implemented in Mt. Caningag. What

is in lude in the project is that to put power and water supply on the area. It should be clean

regularly and put maintenance to the place include its proper waste disposal. There should be

signage in order for the tourist to know about Mt. Caningag. For other enhancement there will be

tree planting and for next 5 years it will become a tree sanctuary and a camp site. There will be a

garden and farm in the first part of Mt. Caningag and also in the second part which contains

different plant species.

Facility/Service Assessment and Enhancement

Mt. Caningag has a large area and space that can be used to build facilities needed for the

development. There are no facilities can be seen in Mt. Caningag just a plain grass land. There’s

no cottages, comfort rooms for the visitors, and stores and other services such as mountain

activities that should be offered to the visitors. There should be mountain activities such as

horseback riding, zip line, camping, and etc. Facilities that cater the need of the visitors such as

Comfort Rooms and other stores where the visitors can buy their needs and souvenirs. A Resto

Bar that offers Filipino and other dishes that satisfy the hunger of the visitors and have fun with

and a place to stay like a cabin or rest house and cottages. There should be a function hall for

events such as birthdays, weddings, and etc. All facilities are made up of bamboo and other native

materials. It match the ambiance of Mt. Caningag and we want the guest to be close to nature and

feel relaxed and delighted. All in all there will be 5 cottages, 5 cabins,2 restrooms, 1 restobar with

a souvenir shop and 1 function hall. When going and leaving Mt. Caningag, there are services

offered like horseback riding on the way to the destination. You can also rent mountain bikes or

you can also ride habal-habal on the way to Mt. Caningag.

Marketing, promotions and Interpretation

Mt. Caningag is open to the public. You can come with your friends, families, and loved

ones. When visiting Mt. Caningag there will be an entrance fee worth for 10 Pesos only. Cheaper

price will also attract more visitors to visit the place. There will be activities offered like

horseback riding, mountain hiking, and artificial rock climbing, and camping overnight with a

bonfire. And of course there should be caution about making bonfires for the safety and security

of the visitors and of course for the preservation of the attraction. There should be a tarpaulin

installed on the way to Mt. Caningag and disseminating market promotion through social media,

pages, websites, creating leaflets, or travel guides in order that everybody will know that there is

a hidden paradise can be found at Mt. Caningag.

Evaluation

Before and after making and implementing the plan, there will be an evaluation to ensure

that everything was in a right tract. Evaluating also involves monitoring the plan if ever it is

effective or there are problems that will exist or existing that needs to act up. Evaluating not just

going to identify the problems occurred but also the successes that happened.

Public participation and support

The development will be supported by the NGO’s, Department of Tourism, and also the

residents of the attraction. The budget and plans will be supported. Everything will be followed

according to the plan.

Residents and Brangay Officials of Buenavista

- They are also going to help with the development of Mt. Caningag since they are familiar

of the attraction.

Local Government Unit (LGU)

- LGU play a major role in a community’s development, provide the links between the

people and government, address in communities problems and concerns, enforce policies

and hold influence over its communities.

Department of Tourism

- The primary government agency charged with the responsibility to encourage, promote,

and develop tourism as a major socio-economic activity to generate foreign currency and

employment and to spread the benefits of tourism to both the private and public sector.

The Department of Labor or DOLE

- Responsible in implementation of policies and programs that promote gainful

employment opportunities, and develop human resources, protect the welfare and

advancement of workers, and maintain harmonious industrial.

Baranggay Tanod

- Barangay Tanod brigades were organized to assist the government in the maintenance of

peace and order in the country. Pursuant to such duty, they conduct rondas or nightly

patrols, necessarily exposing their lives and limbs to danger in the hands of criminal

elements and other wayward members of society.

Philippinne National Police

- A policeman is responsible for maintaining public safety and security by enforcing the

law. Officers patrol the streets in cars, respond to 911 calls, track down criminals, arrest

offenders, and direct traffic, among other duties. Training is acquired through a police

academy.

The Bureau of Fire Protection

- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) of the Philippines is a government agency whose role

is to suppress and prevent the outbreak of destructive fires, enforce relevant laws, and

provide or help provide emergency medical and rescue services.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)

- The primary government agency responsible for the conservation, management,

protection, proper use and sustainable development of the country's environment and

natural resources

The Department of Health (DOH)

- The Department of Health (DOH) is the principal health agency in the Philippines. It is

responsible for ensuring access to basic public health services to all Filipinos through the

provision of quality health care and regulation of providers of health goods and services.

Recommendations

We recommend to build infrastructure and facilities in the development of Mt. Caningag

as well with its regular maintenance and safety and security of the area. It is one of the potential

tourist attraction in Pintuyan that could help for a sustainable economic growth, employment,

and conserve and sustain the environment. Support is needed from the LGU, Tourism

Development Office, Local Planning’s, Brgy. Buenavista officials and residents.

Conclusion

Tourism benefits the local economy of the destination where it is planted. It generates

jobs, increases sales of local small businesses, and the money that these businesses generate goes

straight back into the community. This is because the more they make, the more they can meet

demand and supply. Development Plan for a Tourist Attraction is important, the problem of a

tourist attraction will have a solution and the plans will contribute/benefits the attraction and as

well with the local community, tourist, government, economics, social and environment. Mt.

Caningag is an example. Its development will be a big help in the future.
