NIH issues advisories on
prevention of dengue
fever, Chikungunya

of Health (NIH) on Thursday
issued  advisories  on  preven­
tion and control of dengue fe­
ver and Chikungunya.
According to an official of
NIH,  the  advisories  were  is­
sued keeping in view the hyper
active season of mosquitoes,
and previous seasonal trends
of vector­born diseases.
He said that the NIH also
issued  another  advisory  re­
garding  the  Primary  amebic
meningoencephalitis  (PAM)
also called Naegleriasis.
The objective of these ad­
visories is to sensitize human
and animal health care authori­
ties to further strengthen and
improve the level of prepared­
ness in prevention and control
of these diseases.
According to the advisory,
Dengue is a viral disease trans­
mitted  by  mosquitoes  of  the
genus Aedes  (Aedesaegypti
and Aedesalbopictus),  which
are widely distributed in sub­
tropical  and  tropical areas  of
the world including Pakistan.
Dengue Fever is endemic
in almost  all  geographical re­
gions of Pakistan and there is
substantial  evidences  that  its
multiple  serotypes  are  circu­
lating in the different areas of

clinical signs with dengue, and
can be misdiagnosed  in areas
where dengue is common. The
proximity of mosquito breed­
ing sites to human habitation is
a significant risk factor.

Despite surveillance  limi­
tations, a total of 88 cases are
on record in Pakistan in last 10
years with a case  fatality  rate
of  100%.  During  this  year,
Karachi  have  reported  three
deaths due to Naegleriasis.
He said that to mitigate the
risks  associated  with  the  hot
season ahead, it  is imperative
to  undertake  immediate  and
long term preventive measures
in mega  cities  particularly
Karachi.
He added vigilant surveil­
lance is also imperative to pick
the  suspected  cases for dis­
ease confirmation and ensur­
ing aggressive measures to in­
terrupt further  transmission.

ISLAMABAD  (APP):The
President of  Pakistan has
promulgated the Naya Paki­
stan  Housing and Develop­
ment  Authority Ordinance,
2019 to provide for housing
and real estate development,
and other activities related to
land and construction.
Under the ordinance, the
Naya Pakistan  Housing and
Development Authority will
be  established for  the  pur­
poses of planning, develop­
ment, construction and man­
agem ent of real  estate
projects.
The Prime Minister shall
be the patron of the author­
ity  and  shall  review its per­
formance  and  give  general
policy directions. The  pa­
tron shall  constitute the
policy board comprising not
less than  five and not more
than 11 members, including
chairman  for a  term  of  five
years.
The authority shall iden­
tify imm ovable  properties
and projects suitable for the

schemes. It will recommend
to  the  Federal  Government
to provide or procure immov­
able  property or  a  project

315 Pakistani prisoners
from Malaysia to arrive
home on 29th
ISLAMABAD  (APP):  As
many  as  315 Pakistanis  lan­
guishing in Malaysian detainee
cam ps  despite  completing
their jail  terms  will  return
home on May 29 after provi­
sion of financial and legal as­
sistance from the government
of Pakistan.
“The  government  will

curred  on  their repatriation,”

‘burqa­clad’  women  partici­
pants while high vigilance will
be  maintained  by  the  police
officials to ensure  peaceful
holding of processions.
Airlines  and the  OPF  had
signed an agreement with the
PIA in that regard, he added.
Kashif  said initially it
was estimated that around Rs
60 million would be required
as transportation charges and
other costs,  which, however,
had  been  reduced  to  Rs 50
million on the intervention of
Zulfikar  Bukhari.

a letter to his Malaysian coun­
terpart seeking legal relief for
the  Pakistani  expatriates  im­

bringing  back overseas  Paki­

ISLAMABAD  (APP): After
the  delay of  one  year,  the
Capital Development Author­
ity (CDA) has eventually  re­
leased over Rs5 million to de­
velop  the  first­ever scientific
landfill site near Sangjani for
the disposal of tons of garbage
on permanent basis produced
by the federal capital.
The  contract  would be
awarded to a experienced firm
after completing all codal for­
malities, a Metropolitan Cor­
poration Islamabad (MCI) se­
nior official of the Sanitation
Wing told APP on Thursday.
He  said the  consultant
would  carry  out  geo­tagging
and drilling  to  evaluate  the
water table of the site.
It would also be ensured
that the underground water of
the area would not be polluted
by  dumping  of  around  750­
800 metric tons of garbage and
municipal solid waste per day.
The official said  the en­
tire process  would  take  over
four  m onths  but  the  MCI
would start disposing the gar­
bage  after the  period of two
months on temporary basis.
