Global CO2 emissions

1/3 from heavy vehicles

2/3 from cars
Gasoline vs. electricity in Sweden
• Motor output (efficiency): • Cost of running a car (without taxes)
– Gasoline = 6 SEK = 100 %
– Gasoline = 30%
– Electricity = 25 %
– Electricity = 85% – Difference = 75 %

A bit of history

• The world’s first Porsche, in 1898, was • At the same time, a system for
battery powered leasing and battery replacement was introduced.
• The first hybrid car was built in 1900 • Up until 1916, the U.S. dominated in electric cars
The world’s first “e-bus”

• Tested in Berlin in 1882

and manufactured by
Siemens

• Today, there are

more than 350
different trolley-bus
systems in the
world

The solution
In Sweden it would be sufficient to
electrify 20 000 km of totally almost
Direct feed
500 000 km roadways at a cost of
about 10 - 15 BnEUR
Battery

Sweden are importing fossil

fuel amounting to 6 BnEUR
every year
45 km
Charging while driving
Conductive technology – feeding from above
Charging while driving
Inductive technology – feeding from the road
Charging while driving
Conductive feeding from the road- Our choice
Conductive technology with feeding from the road
• Vehicles are charged and operated
while driving
• Works for all types of vehicles
• Existing infrastructure can be used
• Can reduce CO₂ emissions by 80-90%
• Batteries can be reduced to less than
50 km range.
• Cost is expected to come down to less
than one MEUR/km

Technical solution
Technical solution
How the rail are layed down into the road
Target in full production: 1 km per hour

25
The Truck
• Brand: DAF
• Converted by: E-traction
• Engine, power train and diesel tank
removed.
• Two motors built into the rear axle. Total
power of 226 kilowatts (300 hp).
• Battery: 80 kWh, weight 600 kilos.
• Weight: 18 tons
• Load: 6.5 tons
• Emissions: Zero
• Driving characteristics: Quiet, better
acceleration and stable with low center of
gravity
Test track at Arlanda

• A 200-meter test track was built in

May 2012.
• Additional 150 meters in October
2014.
• The first 200 meters were replaced by
version 3 in August 2016.
• Additional 50 meter version 4 was
installed in March 2017.
Some challenges
• Construction of rail has been changed
during the project.
• Almost everything we do is about
starting from scratch.
• New technology in a public road = a
lot of anxiety and tough demands.
• No existing industrial production of
rails.
• No standards, not even similar
standards.
• The choice of a fully electric truck has
been a long and bureaucratic process.

28
Ongoing and coming activities
• Electrifying 2 km between Arlanda Airport and
Rosersberg Freight Terminal
• Civil works beside the road (cables etc.) have
been finalized in September 2017.
• Ongoing production of rails.
• Focusing on safety and system verification.
• Waiting for ”GO” to start mounting the rails into
the road.
• Commercial transports started in September 2017
• Increasing number of visits and presentations
