Researches on Guided weapons

Introduction:-
Guided weapons are one of the most important applications of Control system. Some of the
control systems for used for guidance of weapons systems are Polar, Cartesian and roll control;
aerodynamic and thrust vector control; actuation systems; instrumentation; accelerometers;
rate and position gyroscopes; acceleration and velocity control; roll rate and position, latax and
altitude autopilots.

Latest researches for the Technology:-

Latest research on guided missiles are discussed here as the technology is enhancing the field
day by day. One of them is laser guided missiles. They follow the given commands form the
control systems to hit the target. Latest research for accurate output give the following ideas:-

Control By laser Technology

A target senses whether and where it has been struck by a laser light. The target includes a
screen for allowing laser light to pass through, a plurality of light sensors behind the screen,
and an optical display associated with one or more of the light sensors. When the target is
struck by a laser light, a sensor records the strike, and the target may be struck with laser light
multiple times, whereby different sensors may record the different strikes. To determine
whether and where the target has been struck, the user activates a display mode that causes the
optical displays in the target to illuminate. The user can then reset the target so the user can
begin again.
Atmospheric Effects control for the Transmission
In Course of atmospheric transmission, laser atmospheric transmission give the concept of
linear optical effect produced by the interaction of atmosphere and laser and non-linear effects
and influence of laser transmission due to theses effect that can cause effect on the output of
laser controlled weapons systems. In latest research, the linear effects of atmosphere
refringence, absorption, scattering and turbulence affecting laser transmission were analyzed.
And the non linear effects affecting laser atmosphere transmission were also analyzed. On this
basis, the corresponding improvement measures were analyzed. By understand and master the
laws of atmospheric transmission and study avoiding or as far as possible decreasing the
influence of laser transmission induced by atmosphere by using controlling system, the
outcome can be referred to the system for the guidance of laser weapons. So the control systems
for the laser transmission is used to control the effect of atmosphere and then it technology for
guidance to weapon work.

Output Control of Weapon Simulator

A target device is usable with a simulation system which includes a weapon simulator having
a trigger, a chamber for firing a blank cartridge in response to the trigger, and a transmitter
arranged to emit a light signal defining one or more activation codes of prescribed duration in
response to the trigger. The target device includes a sensor array of photodiodes and a processor
receiving output signals from the photodiodes. The processor determines that the sensor array
has been hit by the weapon simulator in response to a first portion of one activation code being
received by one of the photodiodes and at least one second portion of the same activation code
being received by the same or a different one of the photodiodes when the first portion and the
at least one second portion correspond to an entirety of one activation code within the
respective prescribed duration.
Guidance and control for high dynamic rotating artillery rockets

The acceleration autopilot with a rate loop is the most commonly implemented autopilot,
which has been extensively applied to high-performance missiles. Nevertheless, for spinning
rockets, the design of the guidance and control modules is a challenging task because the rapid
spinning of the body creates a heavy coupling between the normal and lateral rocket dynamics.
Nonlinear modelling of the rocket dynamics, control design as well as guidance algorithms are
performed in this paper. Moreover, discrete-time guidance and control algorithms for the
terminal phase, which is based on proportional navigation, are performed. Finally, complete
nonlinear simulations based on realistic scenarios are developed to demonstrate the robustness
of the proposed solution with respect to uncertainty regarding launch, environment and rocket
conditions. The performance of the proposed navigation, guidance and control system for a
high-spin rocket leads to significant reductions in impact point dispersion.
