What does HIV mean?

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. HIV attacks the T


cells inside of the immune system which are the cells that fight off
infections.
How do you get HIV?

HIV is transmitted through contact with the blood, semen, genital fluids, or
breast milk of a person infected with HIV.Having unprotected sex and sharing
needles or syringes with a person infected with HIV are the most common ways
HIV is spread.
What are the symptoms of HIV?

Early symptoms of HIV may feel like (and may even be mistaken for)
a long-lasting flu. These flu-like symptoms may occur 4-8 weeks after
infection, and are known as HIV seroconversion or an acute HIV
infection. Some of the symptoms that result from HIV seroconversion
syndrome include the following:
Swollen lymph nodes Fever Diarrhea Headache Muscle
aches Nausea and vomiting Rash on the abdomen, arms, legs
and face Sore throat
Oral thrush (a fungal infection found in the mouth)
What is AIDS ?

AIDS is an acronym that means Aquired Immunodeficiency


Syndrome.AIDS is the most severe phase of HIV infection. People
with AIDS have such badly damaged immune systems that they get an
increasing number of severe illnesses, called opportunistic infections.
