Would you recommend that Collins bring this issue before the CEO and the board of directors and recommend implementation? Why or why not? Answer: Yes, I recommend that Collins bring this issue before the CEO and the board of directors and recommend implementation. Why? Because she is concerned that Baptist Hospital is losing good employees to other hospitals that offer a more liberal domestic partner benefits and she is convinced that provision of such benefits will be beneficial to the hospital in terms of recruiting and retaining employees. Why not? She is concerned that the hospital's culture is socially conservative. Consequently, she feels that the CEO, the executive team and the board of directors may be less enthusiastic about implementing such a change than she is. Q # 02. If you believe that Collins should recommend implementation of domestic partner health benefits, what are the potential benefits to the Baptist hospital and how would she document these? Answer: Provision of such domestic partner health benefits will be beneficial for the hospital in terms of reduction in high turnover rate among the employees. She should document these by defining a "domestic partner" as a person over 18 who shares living quarter with another adult in an exclusive committed relationship in which the partner are responsible for each other's common welfare. A standard definition typically included requirements concerning a minimum age, a requirement that the couples live together, financial interdependence, a committed relationship, and a non-blood relative. Before such benefits can be provided, hospital should require a signed and notarized affidavit specifying these requirement must be signed by both domestic partners and witnessed by a notary. Q # 03. What are the potential disadvantages to the hospital and what steps should she recommend to address these potential disadvantages? Answer: Higher turnover rate among employees, low productivity, reduction in loyalty of employees towards hospital and creation of hospital’s bad image are the potential disadvantages to the hospital. She should recommend the higher management for the provision of domestic partner health benefits to the employees of the hospital to address these potential disadvantages.
