‘The purpose of this book is to leave a history of the Sears, James, Gallozzi
and Julian families for present and future generations through my life
‘experiences. I hope that family members will continue to add to thi
‘documentary to fill in the areas that I have either forgotten, didn’t know of
or have made incorrect entries. I have used many pictures to help
apturerenew the history of the families.

Bom on July 7 1940 in a small town, FenwickbaFrank, just outside
of Richwood, Nicholas County, West Virginia. My parents were
Avery (Jack) Sears and Artie May James Sears.
‘My father, was born in Webster County West Virginia on August 9",
1910, He migrated across the Appalachian Mountains from
Pocahontas County with his parents and grandparents. It was an old
family rumor that my great grandfather, an immigrant from
Germany, was engaged in a fight with a fellow logger and killed him
during a knife fight at a logging camp. The story goes that the entire
family left in the cover of darkness, in a wagon, to escape retaliation
from the deceased’s family. They eventually settled in Richwood
WV where my dad took a job at the local clothespin factory. My
dad’s nickname, Jack, evolved from his job as a “Water jack” at the
factory.My dad had four brothers;
Ralph, Born in Pocahontas Cty, 9/15/1916, died on July 24, 1991,
Eugene Born in Nicholas Cty, 7/2/1919,
Paul Bom in Nicholas Cty, 11/21/1921and
Junior Born in Nicholas Cty 3/29/1924.

‘Thelma Sears Clark, Born in Nicholas Cty 4/19/1927,
Elvery Sears Queen, Elvery had one daughter, charlotte Starcher
and two sons, Roger and Steve Queen, Bom in Nicholas Cty,
7/17/1929, died February 7, 1992, Richwood Cemetery and
Emma Jene Sears Kyer, Husband, Donald Kyer, Emma Jene had
two sons, Jody and Donald Kyer, and one daughter, Donna Jean
Kyer, Born in Nicholas 9/26/1936, died May 13, 1987 Richwood
Cemetery.
‘The family had very little in the way of income during the late
nineteen twenty’s and nineteen thirties due to the great depression
and little formal education. My Grand parentsparents’ names were
Burn Monroe Sears, born in Clay Cty, March 6,1886, and died on
December 12, 1956 he is buried at the Richwood Cemetery and
Abby Carpenter Sears, born in Webster Cty, on September 2,1887,
and died June 29, 1969, she is buried in the Richwood Cemetery“My Dad and his Brothers Eugene and Paul
