Issue Description
Several operators have reported the CFDS fault messages "NO CIDS 2 DATA" and "NO
CIDS 2 DATA (INTM)" on the CFDS PLR/PFR on their A320Family aircraft. These
messages appear mainly during flight phase 2 and 6. There is no operational degradation
of the CIDS. This has been reported with all CIDS standards, i.e. with director PN
Z010H000XYYY; X=3,5 and Y=113,117,118,119,20A,21A, 22A and all CFDS standard.
Investigation Status
Following operators' reports, investigations were launched by Airbus together with CIDS
Supplier (Airbus-Buxtehude). Specific conditions of occurrence (Short Power Interrupt) of
the failure message were determined in flight phase 2.
In service trial, flight test and laboratory testing have allowed to identify another
condition of occurrence. It has been confirmed that a 'NO CIDS 2 DATA' fault message
may be triggered when the pilot performs an Attendant Call towards the Forward cabin
attendant station.
This scenario has been confirmed during in depth lab testing. When Forward Attendant
Call is computed by the CIDS, the audio board of the Director 2 is activated and its
internal logic may lead to the loss of its ARINC communication with the CFDS.
Since there is no Classic CIDS OBRM software update scheduled, Airbus recommend
filtering the CFDS messages as per SIL 00-028.
Mitigation / Interim Plan
Airbus recommend to filter the CFDS messages "NO CIDS 2 DATA" and "NO CIDS 2 DATA
(INTM)". This does not lead to a hidden failure since in case of Director 2 failure the
warning indication will also trigger a maintenance status "CIDS 2" on lower ECAM.
