Production and operations strategies

With the motto of bringing "something new" for our customers we are focusing on the better
quality and unique designs. And at the same time we also focus on the cost minimizing strategies
because Binyounas collection offer their customers relatively lower prices now for that to be
achieved they need to follow some strategies.

Repetitive focus; falls between the product and process focus. The repetitive process is a
product-oriented production process that uses modules. Modules are parts or components of a
product previously manufactured or prepared, often in a continuous process. Fast-food firms are
an example of repetitive process using modules.

We have shown in the film document that how employees are working on the designs forwarded
to them by their supervisor. These employees work on multiple but similar designs at the same
time.

Binyounas competitive strategy for the present is Price and new designs in the same basket that
attracts customers who love new fashion designs and also looking for lower prices.

New product development (NPD) in a revised and updated configuration of resources can have a
profound leveraging effect on business competitiveness. The strategic determinants of NPD may
lead to sources of competitive advantage for our Company. Against this background, this study
constructs a research framework, in line with the resource-based view and transaction cost
theory, to explore how the strategies regarding NPD can be conceived and deployed to achieve
superior competitiveness. Some successful companies have also been reviewed. These
manufacturer has acquired resources, various (dynamic) capabilities and knowledge through its
NPD process, resulting in core competencies and sources for competitive advantages. The
implementation of NPD has allowed our Company to provide an increasing variety of new
products and to upgrade its services in order to serve a wider range of buyers, and as a result,
continuously capturing business opportunities in today’s dynamic markets.

Bin Younas Collection has a diverse and an innovative portfolio of products, custom-made to
suit the consumers' every desire. BYC is indeed a symbol of quality, commitment and growth.

Productivity

According to Mr Khurram Operations manager at Binyounas, refers productivity to the

efficiency of the production system. It is an indicator of how well the factors of production (land,
capital, labor and energy) are utilized. It may also be defined as human effort to produce more
and more with less and less inputs of resources as a result of which the benefits of production
may be distributed more equally among maximum number of people.

Furthermore Mr Khurram said Binyounas working on efficient productivity by using minimum

resources generating maximum outputs. Because Binyounas tends to be cost effectiveness so that
they can have competitive advantage over competitors by keeping their prices low.

Demand Forecast:

Binyounas collection forecast their demand on bases of short and medium range time horizon
because in such industry demand can not be define for longer period of time due to uncertainty in
trends and seasonal changes So Binyounas has to forecast demand for short or medium range
depending on the current trends and season. For Example now they are designing lawn
collection because it is summer season and there was a sale of 20% on last year unsold designs.
And sale of almost 25% on winter collections as the demand of such industries varies from
season to season.

Sometimes Binyounas collection also has to forecast demand on the bases of sales for example
some of their last year designs can be demanded by customers so they have to forecast according
to customer demand and sales.

Capacity Planning:

Binyounas use design capacity to purchase raw material. Design team of Binyounas work
together through proper communication they share their ideas and work in advance for making
new design. Binyounas raw material capacity is not more than the demand for now as they
purchase inventory 1 months before the season for example for this summer season supplies
have already been bought and stored just to make sure the availability for the production.
Capacity planning is the process of determining the production capacity needed by an
organization to meet changing demands for its products.

In the context of capacity planning, design capacity is the maximum amount of work that an
organization is capable of completing in a given period. Furthermore we have our own
warehouse so we don't have to pay extra rent for storage. Also the life of the cloth is long so
there is no wastage. We have almost 100 employees working on our operations from the factory
to supply chain. And our main head office has its own designers who are top graduates from
fashion schools who determine the market of fashion and have knowledge of changing trends
and fashion.

In the near future we are looking to increase our capacity to double or even more than that so that
markets of Karachi and Islamabad can be reached. We also plan to open our outlets in famous
malls like Emporium and Dolmen mall Karachi.

G.M of BYC said “Business policy is always dependent on capacity”.

They look for day to day operations.

Location and Layout strategies:

Shahid brothers have decided to enter the market of Fashion industry and they already had a
great opportunity to open a factory in Gujranwala. Location decisions are the strategic decisions
that require large financial investments and they are irreversible in nature. A number of factors
like market related factors, tangible or cost factors and intangible or qualitative factors, affect

9 | Page
and are affected by the location choice. Models and techniques such as break-even analysis,
factor rating technique, transportation method of linear programming, center of gravity method,
and analytical Delphi method help managers in making location decisions. Since these models
work on quantitative basis; therefore the influence of qualitative factors should be considered by
managers to decide the location choice.

We took advantage of the resources we already had and successfully set a factory and Factory
outlet in Sialkot road which is a major place for factories .

Layout strategies

By keeping in mind the general considerations, binyounas has also made their layout strategy as
they have high customer interaction that also provide safer working conditions for employees
and sales person working over there in stores.

Binyounas uses

● Retail store layout

Binyounas kept their stores big enough so that customers get easily what they want. They used
best furniture including table sofas and chairs. Binyounas designed their outlets in a way that
gives customers feel like home.

A recent branch has been opened in Gujranwala Satellite Town and it has the layout like

10 | Page
11 | Page
● Warehouse and storage layout

Binyounas uses their layout in the back side of their stores and their warehouse uses
maximum of cube that can store large amount of articles.

12 | Page
● Workcell layout

Binyounas uses work cell layout back at its manufacturing area. They have made their
teams and divided each one with tasks like

● Designs
● Printing
● Embroidery
● cutting
● stitching
● finishing
● packing
● delivery to warehouse
● delivery to retail shop
● Product oriented layout

At first Binyounas use Fabrication line than Assembly line

Fabrication line:

In Fabrication line finalization of design and printing take place according to the type of fabric
stuff. It requires great mechanical and engineering work

Assembly line

In assembly line all parts of combined cloths become finished good in form of complete ready to
wear dress.

Binyounas has made balance between its fabrication and assembly line.

Inventory Management

Our three main lines are planned in such a way that we forecast our demand in Pakistani market
so that we don't have issues of excess or shortage supply. We keen to meet the demand fully and
create a greater opportunity and platform for the coming seasons.

Inventory management includes finished goods in our stores as we visited the factory outlet of
BYC. We analyzed that they manage their designer clothes in such a way that offer customers a
wide range of variety and choice of price to purchase from.

e.g. There was a sale of 20% on last year unsold designs. And sale of almost 25% on winter
collections as the demand of such industries varies from season to season in summer fabric like
cotton and lawn are largely used by the industry on the contrary in winter stuff like Chiffon,
velvet and Linen is designed by the industry as demand changes from time to time so the
company has to manage its inventory and keep it up to date in order to make place for the
changing trends. It helps to build-up strong relationship with the other departments to obtain
maximum output from the export order. Besides, production planning and control department of
clothing industry is also responsible for the timely shipment.

Material requirement planning

Since we deal in the domestic market till now so our material requirement planning is based on
local market. Material Requirements Planning (MRP) is a computer-based production planning
and inventory control system. MRP is concerned with both production scheduling and inventory
control. It is a material control system that attempts to keep adequate inventory levels to assure
that required materials are available when needed MRP system keeps the data of the inventory in
a way that when the limit of the inventory comes to near end the system alerts the programmer or
manager to keep up with the inventory

Our major suppliers are from Gujranwala that is the major exporter of fabric raw material due to
this specialty Gujranwala is to be considered among textile industrial cities of Pakistan for its

14 | Page
wide variety and quality of textile. Secondly if we require to order velvet then we contact our
suppliers in Peshawar because it’s famous for velvet production and produces a large amount of
velvet that is also known for its quality. Our major clothes purchases are Chiffon, crinkle,
Cotton, Lawn, Linen and Velvet.

Global Operations and competitive advantage:

"My dream is to make Binyounas a multinational – completely process-driven and completely

professional-led. Binyounas will be the brand to actually go global – we have the potential to go
and create history," said by Nadeem Younas, the founder and chairman of Binyounas, channeled
positive energy during discussion on the visit at Binyounas factory.

We also had a good exchange of ideas with Binyounas Marketing head, who tossed a bunch of
questions towards them. How Binyounas will grow globally ? How they get competitive
advantage?

He said rhetorically that "We contain ourselves to Pakistan; currently it is a huge small market
for us. The country can easily have about 40 of the malls the size of Dolmen – Karachi alone can
have 10-12 of those. Retail fashion, which is still a very mature market here, will burst fully into
view in about four to five years here. There is still a lot of development to take place.

While the potential is there, how will Binyounas fund its global ambitions? "As of now,
Binyounas has zero debt; we have kept it a completely equity-based business. Initial capital was
Rs 1 million, which we have grown over the years. But an entrepreneur can only stretch a
business so much – after a point, you need other people to take you forward. So, we plan on
getting listed, within two years. We have already shipping worldwide and we have distributors in
UK, Canada and India.

Furthermore he said that ‘’We are constantly learning. For instance Binyounas Collection is a
new concept for us and we are still figuring it out," he noted that Binyounas needed to do more
on the product development side before it went global on a large scale.

15 | Page
On the side of competition Mr Nadeem mentioned few competitors “Shah posh, Aleez and
.Khuda Baksh etc. Competitive advantage of Binyounas is product differentiation. Binyounas
design philosophy is to always be current with traditional fashion trends. Binyounas forwardness
in color and use of fabric makes them forerunner in competition.

Recommendations:

● We recommend as being business students that BYC Company should focus on

uniqueness and trendsetting nature.
● They should also hire fresh graduates from NCA or PIFD so that they bring innovation
and uniqueness to the products itself with their fresh new ideas.
● They should focuses more on opening their outlets at well-known malls.
● They should focus on bringing new innovations.
● They should be Highly Responsive on dealing at E-Stores.

● They should focus on Research and Development.

Conclusion:

BIN YOUNAS COLLECTION is owned by a Nadeem Younas and strong employee resources.
In a limited time they became an icon for the value added spinning industry in Pakistan

Being Boys and not having enough background knowledge about Binyounas Collection and its
products, it was a delightful visit to the main head office of Binyounas Company and its polite
and caring staff. Furthermore we also came up to know about the textile market and the fashion
industry in overall.

Our best wishes are with Binyounas Company for its success in the future and also not many
companies in the market that already exist have this much room for changing its nature or bring
flexibility that Binyounas Collection has, because it's just been hardly two years. Also we came
to know about the gentleness of Binyounas to hire freelancers and top designers.

We have also described the working processes of Binyounas collection and how their
Information passes on and how they manages their manufacturing process and material flow
process.
